Oshiomhole Should Apologise To Edo People If Ize-Iyamu Is Not A Thief, Cultist- Wike

By Augustine Akhilomen

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has called on the former chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Comrade Adams Oshiomhole bring himself to apologise to the people of Edo State if indeed the things he said about Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the APC candidate in the forthcoming governorship election were false.

Wike, who took to twitter, said it had become obvious that Oshiomhole was the brain behind the campaign of Ize-Iyamu, as Edo people will not vote for him owing to the series of bad behaviour he made against Ize-Iyamu in the run up to the 2016 election in the State.

Oshiomhole, among other things had tagged the APC candidate as a thief, who was not worthy to be elected into any public office, also adding that he was a cultist, who was notorious for pouring acid on a female student of UNIBEN years ago.

“Oshiomhole should render an apology to Edo people to say that those things he said about Ize-Iyamu were not true and not just to say that he regrets supporting Obaseki then.

“Even now, you can see how the APC campaign is going. It is Oshiomhole that is doing the campaign, showing that without him, Edo people will not vote Ize-Iyamu. It is the same nature of godfatherism that Obaseki has resisted. #EDO2020,” he said.

Wike, who is the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Campaign Council on Edo governorship election, added, “Nigerians are watching to see Edo people demonstrate whether they love themselves or not by proving support for a man who was celebrated as the pillar of Oshiomhole’s administration.”

2027: I’ll Campaign For Peter Obi If… –Atiku

Published

on

The 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, has said that if in 2027, the party decides that it is the South-East’s turn and selects Peter Obi as its candidate, he will readily offer his support.

“I have said repeatedly and I even said it before the 2023 general elections that if the PDP decides to zone the presidential ticket to the South or South-East specifically, I won’t contest it. As long as it’s the decision of the party, I will abide by it. But I contested the 2023 presidential ticket because it was thrown open to all members of the party.

“If the party decides that it’s the turn of the South-East and Peter Obi is chosen, I won’t hesitate to support him,” Atiku declared in a recent interview with BBC Hausa Service.

He added that a merger between the PDP and Labour Party is possible.

Atiku added that members of the party would decide his fate in the 2027 general elections.

The former Vice President mentioned that his recent meeting with Obi might indicate a possible alliance leading up to the 2027 general elections.

Responding to questions about the meeting with Obi, Atiku said, “It’s just a normal friendly meeting that we often have, particularly among us in the opposition parties. Such meetings are healthy for Nigeria’s democracy and in the country’s interest.”

On whether this will bring about a merger, he said, “Yes, it’s very much possible. We can merge to achieve a common goal. So, it’s possible, and nothing can stop it if we wish to achieve that.”

The former Vice President, who denied that the choice of presidential candidate might frustrate the merger discussion, said, “That’s not true. That challenge will not arise. I can tell you that the choice of who will fly the flag of the party won’t be an issue.”

On why he’s still in active politics, Atiku said, “Yes, we can’t keep quiet and watch things go wrong. People are suffering and we are committed to making Nigeria a better place.

“It means you are not tired of politics of Nigeria? Not at all. I am still in active politics in Nigeria, at least, as long as God permits.

“My age doesn’t stop the young ones from testing their fate. Everybody, irrespective of age, is allowed to aspire to be anybody in the society, politically or otherwise.”

Regarding his 2027 Presidential ambition, the former Vice President said “That would depend on the decision of my party. I can’t make any categorical statement on that. It’s the duty of the party to decide on the way to go in the next election.

“Until that time comes. Let’s just wait and see how it will turn out.

“It must not be interpreted like that. I must not be eyeing elections to have meetings with political friends and associates. Currently, we are practising democracy in this country which we fought for with our blood.”

Last week, Obi held a private meeting with Atiku and some other PDP leaders in Abuja.

Obi also met separately with former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and former Senate President Bukola Saraki, sparking speculation about a possible coalition for the 2027 general elections.

Obi was a PDP member until 2022, when he left to pursue his presidential ambitions with the Labour Party.

He finished third behind Atiku in the February 23 presidential election, which was won by Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress.

Atiku blamed Obi’s departure from the PDP for his loss to Tinubu.

Analysts argued that Atiku’s 6,984,520 votes combined with Obi’s 6,101,533 votes could have secured a win against Tinubu, who received 8,794,726 votes.

Monday’s meeting marked the first public interaction between Obi and Atiku since the election.

Social media and online platforms were flooded with viral photos of Obi’s meetings with the three PDP figures on Monday.

In 2019, Atiku and Obi ran together on the PDP ticket but were defeated by former President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC.

However, due to internal conflicts, Obi, who was Atiku’s running mate in 2019, left the PDP and ran as the Labour Party’s candidate in the 2023 presidential election.

Presidency Allegedly Declares Ganduje’s Seat Vacant, Begins Search for New APC Chair

Published

A new report by Leadership newspaper disclosed that the presidency may have given stakeholders the green light to begin the search for a replacement for the All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje.

The report published by Leadership on Friday May 17, also disclosed that besides the North Central zone producing the next chairman, the presidency led President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Kashim Shettima, might be open to allowing the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) camp within the party to produce Ganduje’s replacement as part of the appeasement moves.

A top source within the APC camp disclosed to Leadership newspaper on Friday that Tinubu backed the move for stakeholders to begin the search for Ganduje’s replacement.

The source stated thus: “The Villa, which has been silent over Ganduje’s recent political travail, is said to have “commissioned” APC governors from the North Central geo-political zone to begin a search for a new chairman from the region as originally planned by the party.”

Speaking further, the source disclosed that those opposed to Ganduje’s continued stay, including a serving senator who was former governor of a South South state, listed his perceived handling of the Edo and Ondo primaries as well as the unfolding drama surrounding the probe into his tenure as Kano state governor.

The report also claimed that Ganduje’s woes, is being compounded by an alleged plan for the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) presidential candidate in 2023, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, to return to the APC.

The above claim was confirmed to LEADERSHIP newspaper on Friday by a former commissioner and APC chieftain in Kano state, Musa Ilyasu Kwankwaso.

Edo, Ondo Gov Polls: ‘We Need Security To Protect Registrants, Registration Personnel, Equipment, Observers, And Journalists’, INEC Tells FG, IGP

Published

on

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, on Thursday, called on security agencies to maintain vigilance over the electioneering process to prevent violent attacks and negative mobilization by political parties, candidates, and their supporters during campaigns.

Speaking at a meeting of the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security in Abuja, Yakubu emphasized the need for security agencies to protect registrants, registration personnel, equipment, observers, and journalists covering the Continuous Voters’ Registration ahead of the upcoming Edo and Ondo governorship elections.

The Edo State governorship election is scheduled for September 21, 2024, while the Ondo State election will take place on November 16, 2024.

The CVR in both states will run simultaneously from Monday, May 27, to Wednesday, June 5, from 9 am to 3 pm daily, including weekends.

Campaigning by political parties began on April 24, 2024, and will conclude at midnight on September 19, 2024.

Yakubu underscored the responsibility of security agencies to ensure the enforcement of the law throughout the election period, stressing the importance of a peaceful and orderly process.

He said, “We need security protection for the registrants, registration personnel, equipment, observers, and journalists that will cover the CVR exercise.

“I urge you to keep your eyes on the electioneering process to prevent violent attacks or negative mobilisation by political parties, candidates, and their supporters during their campaigns.

“Similarly, the use of the power of incumbency to deny opposition parties and candidates access to public facilities such as radio and television stations, public buildings for campaigns and rallies, or even outdoor advertising through the imposition of excessive fees and levies often results in the breach of the peace.

“These actions, including the mutual destruction of campaign materials and facilities, violate the provisions of Sections 91 to 97 of the Electoral Act 2022. The security agencies must ensure the enforcement of the law,” he said.
