Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has described the security warning issued by the United States on the activities of the dreaded Al-Qaeda terrorist groups alarming.

Recall that the Commander of the U.S. Special Operations Command, Africa, Dagvin Anderson on Wednesday alerted the Nigerian authorities that the group has started penetrating within the north-western region.

Reacting to the development, Fani-Kayode via his twitter handle urged the Nigerian security agencies to take the warning seriously.

He said, “The claim by the U.S. that Al Qaeda & ISIS are planning to infiltrate the south is alarming.

The immediate past first lady in Oyo State, Mrs Florence Ajimobi has denied her involvement in the planned removal of the current governor of the state, Seyi Makinde.

Ajimobi described the allegations as baseless and untrue.

It was gathered that a speculation emerged in the early hours of Tuesday alleging that Florence held a meeting with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin over plans to remove the governor.

But, Ajimobi in a statement issued by her media office, dismissed the rumour.

She described the rumour as an attempt to tarnish her image.

She said the activities of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, does not concern her.

She added that any attempt to link her to the impeachment rumor is a calculated move to malign her reputation.

Ajimobi in the statement on Tuesday said “Activities of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Oyo State are of no concern to me.

“Linking me to such a plot could only be borne out of mischief and deliberate reverse propaganda to malign my reputation”.

2027 Election Not About Money But Nigerians Vs Tinubu — Ologbodiyan

Published

on

A Member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kola Ologbodiyan has declared that the 2027 general election will not be about money, but a battle between Nigerians versus President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Ologbodiyan, who is also a Former National Publicity Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP), said this during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, on Tuesday.

“The ADC may not have the kind of money that the government has but you must understand that this forthcoming election will not be about money that you have because people will take your money and use it against you.

“The next election is about Nigerians versus President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, he said on the breakfast show.

His comment follows accusation by opposition parties that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wants to turn the country to a one-party state.

He however, said the ADC has stepped forward to symbolize the determination of Nigerians.

“We have had enough of this government and APC that’s what is happening, we have seen it before and it’s not just going to happen in the life of this presidency.

“We have seen a situation where a president gave out money to people to go and vote for him, and yet they didn’t deliver him”, the party chieftain added.

Ologbodiyan noted that the opposition might have power and money. however,

“What is important and what ADC is fighting for is to allow the process of an electioneering that will be clean and credible.

“Put the ballot out there and allow the people to decide, that’s the issue so we don’t care who has money, I have said it repeatedly that what is happening In ADC is what used to happen in the time of the second republic”.

He further said that they should be allowed to do their convention and see whether people will turn out or not.

“They say we don’t have governors, ministers, they say we don’t have senators now we have, they used to say we don’t have some Rep members, now we have and organically people are contributing their resources.

“ADC is a political party that is focused, we don’t engage in distracting arguments or discussions, we know the direction that we are going and we are following a leader who has the capacity to be followed”, he added.

Supreme Court Fixes April 22 To Hear PDP Leadership Appeals

Published

on

The Supreme Court has fixed April 22, 2026, to hear two separate appeals filed by the Kabiru Turaki-led group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The group is seeking to overturn the Court of Appeal’s decision invalidating the Ibadan National Convention held on November 15-16, 2025.

‎A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Lawal Garba, granted the Turaki group’s application for accelerated hearing and departure from the rules to abridge the time for filing briefs of argument.

‎In the first appeal, filed by the Turaki-led group against the PDP group loyal to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the court ordered that hearing notices be served on Mohammed Abdulrahman, the seventh respondent, who was not represented when the matter came up on Tuesday.

‎At the day’s proceedings, counsel to the Turaki group, Chris Uche, informed the court of the pending applications, stressing the need for urgency to align with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He also filed an affidavit of extreme urgency.

‎Counsel to Austin Nwachukwu and two others, Emmanuel Ukala (SAN), requested 15 days to file his reply, citing the need to obtain all relevant court records from the Court of Appeal’s decision nullifying the Ibadan Convention.

‎The Supreme Court, however, directed all nine respondents to file their replies within five days each and fixed April 22, 2026, for the hearing of the appeal.

‎In the second appeal, involving the Turaki-led group against former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido and others, the apex court also granted accelerated hearing and abridgement of time and fixed April 22 for the hearing.

‎Lamido had sued the group over his exclusion from the national chairmanship contest, which led to Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court issuing orders halting the convention.

The lower courts have largely ruled against the Turaki-led executives, nullifying the Ibadan Convention, barring INEC from recognising its outcomes, and restricting access to the national secretariat in some rulings.

The Turaki group has appealed to the Supreme Court, arguing that the matter borders on internal party affairs, which are not justiciable, and that due procedures were followed.
