World food prices slip in September -FAO

World food prices slipped in September from the month before, with only sugar posting a rise, the UN food agency said on Thursday.

The Food and Agriculture Organisation’s (FAO) food price index, which measures monthly changes for a basket of cereals, oilseeds, dairy products, meat and sugar, averaged 165.4 points last month.

The figure is against a marginally revised 167.7 in August, which was previously given as 167.6.

FAO said global cereals output in 2018 was seen at 2.591 billion tonnes, up three million tonnes on the previous forecast given in September.

However, it is still down 63 million tonnes, or 2.4 per cent, from 2017’s record production level.

FAO’s forecast for world wheat production in 2018 was almost unchanged on 722.4 million tonnes, the smallest since 2013.

Fela stole Afrobeat from Orlando Julius’ – Wizkid’s producer Samkleff alleges

Published

on

Record producer, Samuel Oguachuba, popularly known as Samklef, has claimed that Fela Anikulapo-Kuti is not the pioneer of Afrobeat as widely believed.

The Molowo hitmaker alleged that Fela “stole” the idea of the genre from another veteran musician, Orlando Julius Ekemode.

Samkleff made the allegation amid the ongoing feud between his former associate Wizkid and Fela’s family.

He also claimed that Orlando taught Fela how to play instruments.

Sharing a photo of the legendary Orlando Julius on his X handle, the producer wrote, “This is the man that created afrobeat! His name Orlando Julius Ekemode! Fela stole his style!”

He added, “Fela stole Orlando Julius Ekemode, the original afrobeat founder’s style. He also taught Fela how to play sax!

“The problem with Nigeria is generally, we lack proper documentation. I go start to Dey teach una history.”

Contrary to Samkleff’s claims, it is widely believed that Fela created Afrobeat by blending funk, jazz, salsa, calypso, and West African rhythms.

AMBODE VOTES IN EPE, HARPS ON CULTURE OF ONE MAN ONE VOTE Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Saturday voted at his polling unit in Epe in the Governorship and House of Assembly elections, saying that there is no better time to enhance democracy and promote the culture of one man one vote. Governor Ambode, who got to his polling unit at ward A5, unit 033, Ogunmodede College, Ajaganabe Area, Papa Epe, with his wife around 9:55am, voted at exactly 10:11am. Speaking to journalists after casting his ballot, the Governor specifically renewed the call for eligible voters to come out enmasse, explaining that it was in doing so that their well-being would be enhanced and also deepen good governance in the State. "Like I said earlier, voting has been peaceful thus far; the security agencies are actually at work and we are encouraging every Lagosian to come out and perform their civic obligations without threat or fear. "I believe strongly that in doing this we would continue to enhance the tenets of democracy and like you can see, we believe that with this, we are promoting the culture of one man one vote and then also improve on the State's well-being and the good governance that we have always enjoyed in Lagos State. "I'm happy that I have done this and I will do it again," the Governor said. He also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address delays in arrival of election materials and staff in some centres in the State, saying such was necessary in view of the need to allow more voters to perform their civic obligations. "Firstly, I just want to thank all Lagosians that today, we have all decided that we are going to promote the real tenets of democracy by actually performing our civic obligation and coming out to vote. I have just finished voting with my wife and in this particular polling booth, everything has been very peaceful. "I also understand across the State voting is ongoing and somehow there have been reports of delays in some of these polling centres and we implore INEC to ensure that the voting materials and all the electoral staff actually come out quickly so that everybody can have the opportunity to perform their civic obligations," he said.

Popular Nigerian rapper, Okafor Victor, professionally known as Mr Real, has made a u-turn over his remarks about D’banj’s CREAM platform.

Recall that D’banj had during an interview on The Micon Podcast in November 2025, claimed that his Creative Reality Entertainment Art & Music platform, known as CREAM, is worth $3 billion.

However in a new development, Mr Real in a recent video shared on his Instagram page on Monday, made a u-turn and tendered a public apology to D’banj.

He said, “Hello everyone, this video is an apology video to my boss D’banj. I know most of you must have seen what is happening between me, D’banj, and the CREAM platform. I misunderstood and misinterpreted some things concerning CREAM, and I want to use this opportunity to say I’m very very sorry.

“To D’banj, you play a very big role in my career. I regret the tone and public manner of my recent comments. I hold Dbanj in the highest regard, and I apologise for how the situation was handled. I have withdrawn my comments, and I will not make further public statements on this matter while cooperating to resolve this matter amicably.”

The apology came after D’banj, through his lawyers, reportedly petitioned against Mr Real.
