Why I Want To Be Buried Quietly, Privately Without Public Attention -Veteran Singer, Onyeka Owenu Reveals
Veteran Singer and writer, Onyeka Onwenu says she would like to be buried quickly, quietly, and privately without any public attention.
Onyeka made this known on the backdrop of Obi Cubana’s lavish burial for his mother a fortnight ago, which had social media buzzing.
However, in an interview with Premium Times, Onyeka stated that she would like her burial to be private and simple with prayers, lunch, or dinner afterward.
“I told a friend just days before the most outrageous burial of Innyom Ezinne Uche Iyiegbu in Oba, Anambra State in July that I had given my family instructions on how to bury me when my time comes. Do it quickly, quietly and privately. Celebrate me with prayers, lunch or dinner afterwards. Share some jokes about me and laugh. Mourn, yes, but not excessively. Make merriment and then go about your business. If my friends want to celebrate me, they should do so while I am alive, so that I can enjoy it with them, not when I am gone and have no idea about this. That is me Onyeka Onwenu.
“My mother, on the other hand, wanted a different burial and I promised to give her want she wanted. On her hospital bed, just three days before she passed away, I reinforced that promise – it was important to her and she died knowing that I would keep my word. Hope Onwenu’s burial was nothing like what took place in Oba recently but it was elaborate and pretty expensive. Still I had the satisfaction that I kept my promise.
“The point I make here is that there are different strokes for different folks, even within a family. I do not condemn anyone for how they mourn, with their hard-earned money but I am very uncomfortable with lavish display of wealth on any occasion, especially in a time of hardship and lack for most others. The burial of Obi Cubana’s mother was not only lavish, it was obscene and insensitive. It sent all the wrong signals at a time when Nigeria is wracked with widespread poverty and lack.

Alavin retracts viral allegation against Wizkid associate Godson, urges public to disregard video
Emmanuel Jakpa, popularly known as Alavin, has retracted a viral video linked to the controversy involving businessman and social media influencer, Uyi Godson Agho, popularly known as Godson, urging members of the public to disregard its contents.
Alavin’s statement comes days after Godson an associate of afrobeat star, Wizkid denied allegations that he defrauded social media influencer, Clement Akpobome Ogudu, popularly known as IsokoBoy (ISB), of N100 million, insisting that the matter was a business disagreement that had been misrepresented as fraud.
In a video statement released on Sunday, Alavin said the earlier recording he made on June 28, 2026, involving Godson did not reflect the true situation.
“The content of the video is not true. I hereby make this video as a rejoinder and urge the general public to disregard the earlier video being posted online by one Mr. Richie,” he said.
Alavin further clarified that the continued circulation of the earlier video by Richie was driven by a previous disagreement between Richie and Godson.
“Whatever Richie is posting and saying is out of jealousy and the issue he had previously with Godson,” he stated.
He also maintained that his rejoinder was made voluntarily, restating his continued friendship with Godson.
“I am not making this video under duress. We are all friends,” he added.
The development follows Godson’s petition to the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, through his lawyer, C. C. Ezenwa, Esq., in which he denied defrauding IsokoBoy and described the dispute as arising from a clothing business allegedly valued at about N320 million.
He also alleged that IsokoBoy, Alavin, and others confronted him at his residence, recorded him while he was unclothed, and later circulated the footage online with claims that he had defrauded his business partner.
