‘We never barred Channels TV from Remembrance Day symposium’ – Defence ministry
The Ministry of Defence on Monday dismissed reports alleging that it denied Channels Television access to the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day, AFCRD, symposium/lecture series held at the National Defence College, Abuja.
In a statement signed by the Chief Information Officer, Queeneth Iheoma-Hart, the ministry said a media advisory had been circulated ahead of the event, indicating a 10:00 a.m. start.
Iheoma-Hart added that advisory requested media personnel to be seated by 9:30 a.m. to allow for accreditation, security screening and smooth proceedings.
According to her, a Channels TV cameraman, who arrived before the programme commenced, was duly granted access and covered the event without interruption.
“A reporter who arrived after proceedings had begun was denied late entry strictly on security and protocol grounds, as dignitaries were already seated and checks were ongoing,” she said.
Iheoma-Hart faulted what she described as “inaccurate reporting suggesting deliberate exclusion”, stressing that it valued professional media organisations as partners in public information and transparency.
The spokesperson urged media houses to verify facts before broadcast.
She reaffirmed that the ministry would accord utmost respect to all invited media organisations to cover subsequent AFCRD activities, subject to schedules and standard security procedures.

Liverpool signing Jérémy Jacquet to undergo surgery as Rennes fear his season is over
Rennes defender and Liverpool star Jérémy Jacquet will need surgery after suffering a should injury.
The 20-year-old will move to Anfield at the end of the season after agreeing a deadline day deal with the Premier League champions, who are in desperate need of defensive reinforcements.
However, Jacquet suffered the injury during the French team’s 3-1 Ligue 1 defeat to Lens on Saturday which has led to worry from Liverpool fans who may not get to see the defender for the rest of the current season.
The defender was forced off with a shoulder injury in the 69th minute of the defeat to Lens and according to L’Equipe, Jacquet will need an operation in order to recover full fitness, which could mean the end of the season for the youngster.
Rennes manager Habib Beye spoke on the injury after the game but gave little away as he ponders over the situation.
“For Jeremy, it’s his shoulder, and for Abdelhamid it’s muscular. We’ll have time to see, but it’s definitely quite serious for both of them.”
The report adds that he could miss several weeks of action in a best-case scenario and if the surgery does not go perfectly, he could miss some of Liverpool’s preseason.
Reds manager Arne Slot already has his summer signing Giovanni Leoni already out for the entire season in what has been an unlucky run of transfers for the Dutchman as he aims to solve his defensive woes.

Hargreaves says only “Enrique or Tuchel” could stop Carrick getting the Man Utd job
Former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves reveals who could stop Michael Carrick getting the full time job.
United won 2-0 against Tottenham on Saturday to extend Carrick’s 100% start to four games in what is an incredible run after taking over from former manager Ruben Amorim.
Reports suggest United have already begun the process of hiring a permanent boss, and Carrick will be near the top of that list if he can secure Champions League football for next season.
Carrick has transformed United into a side who can climb back into Europe, and Hargreaves spoke to TNT about how the club cannot ignore his obvious success so far.
“I don’t see how you couldn’t give it to him. I know they had the experience with Ole, but he finished second and did great right up to a point. In the end in football you get the highs and lows. When it’s good, you’ve got to enjoy it.
“Right now, Man United have it good. So if he finishes third or fourth, from where they were and all the noise, how could you not?
“The only thing you could throw at it was experience, and if you could get a Luis Enrique or Tuchel, maybe. But right now, the most important thing is not the manager or the players, it’s a football club winning, and the football club is winning, and Carrick is the architect of that. So why would you change that?”
Even though the Red Devils have been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions, but Champions League qualification would represent a successful season that Carrick could use to leverage a full-time job with the side.

Chelsea keeper Sanchez fires Palmer warning at rest of Premier League
Sanchez was speaking after Palmer’s first-half hat-trick in victory at Wolves on Saturday.
Palmer is now the only player in Premier League history to score three hat-tricks in the first half of a match, while he has also scored more Premier League hat-tricks (four) than any Chelsea player.
Sanchez said: “He’s brilliant. He’s not even at 100 percent yet, he has just come back from injury, and still managed a hat-trick.
“We’re very happy. Everyone knows how good he is, so he needs to keep it up. He’s only going to get better.”
The Spain goalkeeper also had a word for manager Liam Rosenior.
He added, “His style is about dominating the ball and he came with a positive attitude and energy. The boys have really embraced it, and we’re enjoying it a lot.”
