…Says Her Kids Got Death Threats During #EndSARS
Veteran Nollywood actress and filmmaker, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, has called for selfless leadership in Nigeria, saying the country will not make meaningful progress until it finds leaders willing to make ultimate sacrifices for the nation.
The 48-year-old actress, in an interview on Rubbin’ Minds on Channels Television, said Nigeria’s challenges lie squarely with leadership, not the citizens.
Omotola, whose career spans more than three decades, argued that Nigeria needs leaders who are genuinely selfless and prepared to put national interest above personal safety or material gain.
“Until we find leaders in Nigeria who are ready to die for this country, we haven’t started.
“When you see a leader who says, ‘I am ready to die,’ someone who is willing to put his life on the line, that’s when real change begins,” she said on Sunday.
Clarifying her position, the actress noted that her call was not an endorsement of violence but a demand for courage, conviction, and integrity in leadership.
“I’m not saying violence. It’s a mindset. You can’t be afraid, and you can’t be materialistic,” she added.
Rejecting the notion that Nigerians are to blame for the country’s struggles, she stressed that law, order, and accountability must begin from the top.
“It’s unfortunate that we’re still where we are now because we’re a very fortunate, very blessed nation. We have everything that every other nation wants, needs, and is clamouring for.
“It upsets me when I hear, ‘Oh, Nigerians are the problem, not the leaders.’ What keeps any nation sane or in order is laws and enforcement, and it starts from the top,” she stated.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Omotola also warned against tribal politics, describing it as destructive and unnecessary.
“I pray that tribalism will not be on the table in this election. It’s sad that people are still doing this when there are bigger issues,” she said.
The award-winning actress recounted her experience during the last general election, alleging voter suppression in her polling unit, which she said was driven by ethnic bias.
Asked if there was voter suppression, she responded, “Yes, there was, and I have proof.”
According to her, attempts to intimidate or suppress voters only deepen divisions and fuel resentment.
“You cannot suppress a human being. You’ll only make people angry and push them towards revolt. If you convince people instead, you can find ways to work together,” she said.
Emphasising her belief in national unity, Omotola described herself as a true Nigerian with cultural ties across the country.
“I schooled in the North, my husband is half Igbo, I’ve worked extensively in the East, and I’m Yoruba by birth. I love every part of this country,” she said.
The filmmaker also praised the entrepreneurial spirit in places such as Aba, arguing that Nigeria has the capacity to outperform many global economies if united and focused.
“Nigeria is a beautiful country. We’re better than Dubai if we’re serious, and we’re better than China,” she added.
Meanwhile, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed that her children received death threats during the 2020 #EndSARS protests, a development she said forced her to rethink how she engages in activism.
The actress, whose career spans more than three decades, spoke on Sunday while appearing as a guest on Rubbin’ Minds on Channels Television.
“I am used to death threats; I have received them many times,” she said. “But I have never seen anything like what happened during #EndSARS. It was intense.”
“My kids started getting death threats. That was when it became weird,” she said, adding that she was actively involved in the movement at multiple levels.
“I was on the streets during #EndSARS. I was doing international advocacy. I spoke with CNN, engaged with international NGOs and embassies, and I was doing a lot of work.”

Calling them yeyebrities, she questioned why they can’t admit they like her and instead choose to copy her style and claim they did it first.

“This is insensitive” – Mixed reactions as Sam Larry reportedly makes his first public appearance after surviving ghastly accident
Nigerian socialite Sam Larry has reportedly made his first public appearance after surviving a ghastly accident which claimed his bouncer’s life.
It was reported over the weekend that the music promoter was involved in a road accident along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway in Lagos State. According to reports, the vehicle carrying Larry and his bouncer collided with a trailer, leaving the car severely damaged.
While Larry survived the accident and is reportedly receiving treatment in the hospital, his bouncer lost his life.
In a video captured online, speaking live from the hospital bed, Larry gave fans an update on his situation, saying he is doing well and expected to be discharged soon. He, however, said he can’t walk and would be relying on a wheelchair to move around for a while.
In an update, it seems Sam Larry is hale and hearty, as he has reportedly made his first social outing since the incident.
He was captured on a video making the rounds online, amid his friends as they celebrated him.
The friend who posted the video expressed gratitude to God for his life.

The news has left many outraged, especially knowing that a life was lost.

In 2024, Larry also survived a car crash. Speaking online, he expressed gratitude for his life, saying that God will complete his healing soon.
The news of his survival made many unhappy, and it may have stemmed from the fact that he’s not well liked ever since Mohbad’s death.
Recall that Naira Marley and Sam Larry lost the admiration of Nigerians when a video of Sam assaulting the late Mohbad surfaced online.
The video sparked a flurry of reactions from the online community and led to the cancellation of Naira Marley and his label.
The duo were arrested and kept in police custody for more than five weeks but were released on November 17th after they met their bail conditions. Following their release, the singer and his aide have been engaging in several charitable deeds to win back the hearts of Nigerians.

Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji has shed light on how his crying character in movies started.
While speaking with Morayo Afolabi Brown, he said that when he came into the industry, people used to call him that guy who looks like Odunlade, but he wanted people to know him for something specific, hence his crying talent.

He noted that he became popular for his crying role, and people used to call him the crying machine and identify him with it, even without knowing his name.
“At some point, people started calling me the crying machine. They don’t know my name, but they describe me as that guy that cries a lot in movies.
When I came into the entertainment industry, people used to call me that guy that looks like Odunlade, but I wanted people to know me for a particular thing, hence my crying talent”.
Speaking about his Iya Peju character, he said it started during lockdown, and wasn’t something he took seriously until people started asking for more.

The father of triplets spoke about his journey after receiving an Icon Award at the Africa Illustration Awards. He said that when he set out on his journey, the goal was to find creative ways and make a name for himself. Now, he went from looking up to icons to becoming one.
At the 12th edition of the AMVCA on Saturday, Lateef’s movie Lisabi won Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa) and Best Makeup. While receiving his award, he dedicated it to his wife, who has given him three children.
Last year, Lateef, while reflecting on his journey, recalled how people questioned his colleague, Yewande Adekoya, when she handpicked him for a role, but she stood firm and saw the future. Lateef said when his personal production failed, he almost gave up, but he kept hustling and did lots of free work before heaven smiled on him.
In a previous post, while reflecting on his journey, he admitted it wasn’t smooth. However, that’s what makes the triumphs sweet, hence why his heart can’t be filled with gratitude.
The talented actor opened up on his pre-fame journey recalling how the man who trained him in the Yoruba movie industry told him that he would fail within one year. The movie star stated that he replied to the man, telling him to give him two years, and he would see what he would become.
