Tinubu Should Sign Executive Order On Unexplained Wealth, Says Ndume

Published

on

Senator Ali Ndume has called on President Bola Tinubu to sign an executive order on unexplained wealth.

Ndume, who is the lawmaker representing Borno South under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), made the remark in the wake of a comment by retired Supreme Court Justice Musa Muhammad Dattijo over the level of corruption in the country’s judiciary.

While saying there are laws in the UK and other parts of the world to tackle such issues, the lawmaker said he attempted to introduce some bills in that regard.

“I have tried several times but you know, there were excuses here and there,” he said on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. “I think the best way to get this across is when the bill comes from the executive or in the interim, the current president should sign an executive bill on unexplained wealth.”

According to Ndume, the level of unexplained wealth in the country especially among politicians and civil servants requires some laws to combat.

“I know of civil servants that live in houses that not only their income, their salaries, or their life pension – assuming they would live in this world for 90 years or 100 years – cannot buy.” Senator Ndume added.

“The same thing with some of our politicians especially the politically exposed persons like ministers, you find as you rightly said, some of them come to the National Assembly, and suddenly [there is so much money].”

Reiterating that politicians are public servants, he called on the public to hold them accountable.

“Well, I will partially accept what you said,” Ndume said when asked if the lawmakers have failed to pass bills to curb the trend of unexplained wealth in the country.

“The public are those that are supposed to put us on our toes to represent them and account for our actions,” the senator added.

The head of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja’s family, Pa Tajudeen Lagbaja, has expressed regret obtaining Nigerian Defence Academic (NDA) form for the deceased.

Pa Tajudeen, the younger brother of the late COAS’s father, stated that he would not have bought the form had he known it would lead to his death.

Some family members also alleged that Lt. General Lagbaja may have been killed through diabolical means due to a land dispute in his hometown.

According to TheNation, In 2023 a dispute arose in Ilobu, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area in Osun State, when representatives of the Nigerian Army planned to establish a hospital in the community.

Pa Tajudeen told TheNation that he initially obtained the NDA form for the late Lieutenant General.

“Everyone who is born must die. We give glory to God. The year that I obtained NDA form for him, if I had known that he would die before me, I would not have done so. I regret obtaining the form for him. But it is destiny.

“The death that killed Taoreed Lagbaja ought to take me. I took him as one of my children. We are greatly bereaved, we are sad. He constructed a borehole in his father’s compound and other places in the community.

“We can never forget him, his death is so shocking to us. I have accepted the fate, all the promises he made to me have hit a brick wall. He always gave us hope in the family, despite the sorrow, I give thanks to God,” the family head said.

He Took My Son Away At Just 4 Years – Doris Simeon Speaks On Custody Battle With Ex-husband

Published

on

Nollywood actress Doris Simeon has finally spoken about her messy custody battle with her ex-husband, Daniel Ademinokan.

She broke her silence during an interview with actress Biola Adebayo on the ‘Talk to B’ podcast.

Expressing her pain, Doris noted that the last time she played a motherly role to their son was when he was 3 years old.

“I might have had my faults, he also had his faults too. That is why I said I didn’t feel anything when he got married, but the only painful part is that he didn’t allow me to mother my child.

“He took my son away without my consent; he was just 4 years old when he came to the US. My child was 3 when I mothered him last.

“He wasn’t picking my calls, and when he picked up, he would tell me he would call back as he was busy, and for another 3 to 4 months, I wouldn’t get through.

“I was frustrated and depressed. I just went for a movie premiere, and someone told me I’m not here to see my son. That was how they took us to court.”
