Tinubu Backs Sanwo-Olu’s Plan To Stop Pension To Ex-Govs, Deputies
All progressives Congress (APC) Chieftain, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has thrown his weight behind the move by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu to repel the State’s Payment of Pension Law 2007, which provides payment of pension and entitlements to former Governors and their deputies.
Sanwo-Olu had announced the decision while presenting the 2021 Y2021 budget of the State to the House of Assembly on Tuesday.
In a tweet on Wednesday, Tinubu welcomed the decision describing it as a bold and courageous move.
“I would also like to commend the Governor for the plan to commence the repeal of the Pension Law giving pension packages to former governors and their deputies. This is a bold and courageous move by Mr. Governor and I wholeheartedly support him. I encourage all APC loyalists to do the same,” he said.
He also commended the governor for the Y2021 budget proposal totalling N1,155 trillion, just as he expressed optimism that it would go a long way to empower Lagosians and rebuild the state.
“Congratulations to Governor Sanwo-Olu over the Y2021 budget which he appropriately christened” Budget of Rekindled Hope”. This audacious and enterprising budget will empower our people and begin to rebuild Lagos State,” Tinubu said.

2027: Current Govt may use courts to frustrate ADC – David Mark raises alarm

The former Senate President raised the alarm in Abuja during a visit by the National Legal Support Group of the ADC, led by Abdullahi Abdurrahman.
Abdurrahman, at the meeting, revealed that no fewer than 310 lawyers have volunteered to defend the party in all ongoing and future legal cases across Nigeria.
According to him, the legal team has representation in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and is fully mobilised to tackle any legal challenges the ADC may face.
He said the party’s legal team includes prominent legal figures such as the ADC’s Legal Adviser, Peter Oyewole; former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN; and former Edo State Governor and legal scholar, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.
“We are prepared to handle any case that may arise against ADC anywhere in the country,” Abdurrahman said.
Abdurrahman stated further that the lawyers believe in the ability of the current leadership to transform the party and make a meaningful contribution to national development.
He also extolled Senator Mark’s integrity, urging him to use his experience and statesmanship to guide the ADC to national prominence.
The leader of the National Legal Support Group urged the party’s Legal Adviser to provide necessary documents and updates on legal matters to help the team work effectively.
Responding, Oyewole assured the group that all legal protocols surrounding the recent coalition that birthed the new ADC were properly followed.
“There is no cause for alarm,” he stated.
Senator Mark, however, expressed concern about possible legal threats.
“ADC is the party to beat in 2027. The current administration may attempt to use the courts to frustrate our momentum,” he warned.
He urged Nigerians to support the ADC as a credible and patriotic alternative to lead the country forward.
Mark also commended the legal team for their dedication, encouraging them to remain alert and proactive as the party positions itself as a strong contender in the next general elections.
With a growing grassroots presence and a formidable legal structure, the ADC says it is ready to defend its vision and engage in the 2027 political contest.

Lagos LG Election: It’s A Sham Showing APC Game Plan For 2027, Says LP

LP said the exercise was a sham and “a clear red flag – a troubling pointer to what the 2027 general elections may look like if this pattern is not disrupted.”
The party expressed concerns that every true democrat in Nigeria should be alarmed at such development.
Ken Asogwa, Spokesman to Labour Party’s acting national chairman, Nenadi Usman, in a statement on Monday, lamented that “The farce that played out in Lagos State on Saturday, 12th July 2025, under the guise of local government elections, has once again exposed the All Progressives Congress (APC) as a party allergic to democratic principles and due process.
The brazen self-allocation of all 57 council chairmanship seats and 375 out of 376 councillorship positions to the APC is not only shameless – it is unprecedented in Nigeria’s electoral history.”
He said LP has for long known that the APC, both at the national and sub-national levels, has little regard for civility or the rule of law, but “the audacity with which officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) collaborated openly with APC operatives represents a new low. Never in our democratic journey has such impunity been so openly executed.”
According to him, reports from agents of the party across Lagos State indicate that in most polling units, ballot boxes were already stuffed with pre-thumbprinted ballot papers before voting even commenced.
He also said in many instances, LASIEC officials reportedly arrived with pre-filled result sheets – long before any vote was cast.
“While no one expects electoral decency from the APC, we had hoped that they would at least attempt to feign fairness. Even that pretense has now been discarded,” he added.
The party therefore called in its supporters across Lagos to remain calm and law-abiding in the face of what it described as “monumental provocation.”
The statement called on “LASIEC immediately cancel this mockery of an election and organize a fresh, transparent process that reflects the genuine will of the people.”
“Lagos, known as the Centre of Excellence, should not be reduced to a theatre of electoral absurdity. As a microcosm of Nigeria, what happens in Lagos has ripple effects across the federation,” it stressed, adding that Labour Party “will not be silent.”

LG poll: AAC berates LASIEC over ‘flawed’ process, demands cancellation

According to Oni in a statement on Sunday, the election was characterised by the late arrival of electoral officials, with some polling units receiving officials as late as 12 pm.
According to him, this led to widespread discouragement among voters, many of whom left before the officials arrived.
Oni also alleged that adhoc staff complained of receiving ballot papers late and not being provided with funds, further highlighting the electoral body’s incompetence.
He noted that some party logos were missing from the ballot papers, which eroded public confidence and led to voter apathy.
The AAC chairman described LASIEC as a “shame to democracy,” citing the absence of accreditation processes and the alleged collection of bribes by LASIEC staff.
He accused the electoral body of allowing APC agents and thugs to rig the election, with security lapses and violence reported in some areas, including Ikosi-Isheri Mile 12 and Ajeromi Ifelodun.
Oni called for the immediate cancellation of the election, citing non-compliance with electoral laws and guidelines.
He demanded the resignation of LASIEC Chairman Justice Bola Okikiolu Ighile (RTD) and Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for appointing an incompetent electoral body chairman.
He said: “LASIEC officials came to the polling units at 12pm and many others even later. The issue of lateness caused a wide spread discouragement to lots of electorates, as they had to go back home before the arrival of the LASIEC officials. This was done intentionally to disenfranchise the voters.
“When Adhoc staff were challenged they complained of receiving ballot papers late and also some of them said they requested for funds in the morning and they were not given. You can imagine the level of incompetence.
“Some party logos were not on the ballot paper. The lack of preparation which the public are aware of, eroded public confidence, as this brings about voters apathy in the State.
“LASIEC is a shame to democracy. What kind of sham election is this! No form of accreditation. Anybody can just present anyone’s PVC as far as you claim the name on the voters list and vote, or many even voting without any voters list checked.
“We were aware that LASIEC isn’t ready for any credible election through the manners in which they handle the screening process and validation and what has happened today so far is just a confirmation of what we already know.
“LASIEC staff were not hiding the disgusting way of collecting bribes, it shows decadence and lack of integrity within the State electoral umpire. They clinically and shamelessly allowed the APC party agents and thugs to rig the election.
“We are calling for the total cancellation of the sham election conducted by the LASIEC, it can’t be called free talk less fair. The election didn’t follow the guidelines of the electoral law and also the training manual of LASIEC.
In many centers there was no displacement of the voters details while many of the officials colluded with APC to rigged.
“It is disheartening as the time countries around the world are gearing towards better and stable democracy, here we have LASIEC dismantling our already fragile democracy. All political parties asked to sign the hypocrisy “Peace Accord” prepared by the LASIEC while All Progressive Congress APC was quick to sign and turn to inflicting injuries on opponents and causing chaos everywhere during the election.
