TICAD9 booth mirrors Nigerians’ misery, Tinubu’s empty hope, progress – Peter Obi

Published

on

Nigeria’s foremost opposition leader, Peter Obi, has issued a sharp criticism of what he termed a “diplomatic embarrassment” following the appearance of empty Nigerian booths at the ongoing Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD9) in Japan.

In a statement posted late Wednesday night, Obi linked the Nigeria’s empty booths to the performance of the current administration.

He stated, “The empty Nigerian booths in the ongoing Ninth Tokyo International Conference, TICAD9, in Japan do not just define the empty promises of this government for the past two years, they also reflect the consistent emptiness Nigerians have been fed at home by this government. Even the defence being put forward by the government, that they only wanted to have more “strategic engagements”, is the same tired excuse we have heard over and over again.”

Obi further accused the government of deceptive practices.

“This government has mastered the art of throwing around wrong statistics and misleading statements, not to provide real solutions, but to camouflage the emptiness of its performance and the suffering it has inflicted on Nigerians,” he said.

He described the empty booths as a powerful symbol of the nation’s struggles.

“The empty booths at TICAD are not just about a diplomatic embarrassment; they are a clear symbol of the hollow promises and empty governance that our citizens have endured.

“Just as those booths stood empty in Japan, so too have the lives of millions of Nigerians been left empty, with empty hope, empty relief, and empty of the progress they were promised. The truth is unavoidable, the empty booths abroad are a physical reminder of the empty promises at home,” he opined.

Obi concluded his statement with a call for improvement.

“We must do better as a nation,” he added.

2027: INEC bows to pressure, updates NDC’s certified logo on portal

Published

on

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has changed the logo displayed for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, on its official portal, with the commission now reflecting the party’s blue-background “Two Fingers Up” logo.

The updated logo features a blue background, a two-finger victory sign and the red “NDC” inscription.

The development follows a September 8, 2026 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which directed INEC to approve, upload and use the modified logo in elections conducted by the commission.

The dispute arose after NDC alleged that INEC initially uploaded the modified logo but later removed it and reverted to the old logo used when the party was originally registered.

The party subsequently approached the court, seeking an order compelling INEC to recognise and use the modified logo.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled that the modified design, which was adopted at the NDC’s first National Executive Council meeting on March 25, 2026, should be recognised as the party’s official logo.

Following the judgment, NDC leaders directed the party’s candidates and members to use the modified logo on campaign materials, including banners.

2027: Why I will rather back Tinubu than Atiku – Babachir Lawal

Published

on

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has explained why he would rather support President Bola Tinubu than Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

Speaking during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, Lawal said Nigeria could collapse chaotically if Atiku becomes president in 2027.

Recall that Lawal recently joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, after resigning from the ADC following the emergence of Atiku as its presidential candidate.

“I’d rather go with Bola than Atiku because when Nigeria crashes with Bola, it might be an orderly crash, but with Atiku, it would be a chaotic one,” Lawal said.

According to him, the former vice president is not a good man, attributing his position to his previous experience working with Atiku.

“I wanted to work for Atiku. I had the belief that, given the way we are suffering in the North, we should not surrender the presidency; that, at least, our own man would, if nothing else, stop the decline we are in,” he added.

The former SGF accused Atiku of giving instructions and later reversing them after consulting with other people.

“Everything you do with him, there’s chaos,” Lawal stated.
