N6b ISOPADEC Fund: Probe Me If You Can - Okorocha Tells Ihedioha

By Augustine Akhilomen

Imo West Senator, Rochas Okorocha has condemned the ill-approach of Imo State governor, Emeka Ihedioha for accusing him and his wife of carting away with 67 vehicles and N50 billion after his tenure expired on May 29.

In a statement issued on Thursday by Okorocha’s Media Aide, Mr. Sam Onwuemeod, he stated that the allegations made against him are meaningless without any tangible proof.

He also challenge Governor Emeka Ihedioha and his appointees to publish the list and particulars of these 67 vehicles and the details of the N50 billion the former governor and the wife made away with vis-à-vis other items thereto.

Below is the statement

The statement reads: “The media had quoted the Chairman of Governor Emeka Ihedioha’s Committee on Recovery of Government Properties, Mr. Jasper Ndubuaku as claiming that the former Governor of the State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the wife, Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha left with 67 Vehicles and N50 billion. They also made similar claims against appointees of the former governor and other related bodies that worked with the last administration.

“Against the backdrop of these repeated claims, we want to respond in this manner; We Challenge Governor Emeka Ihedioha and his appointees to publish the list and particulars of these 67 vehicles and the details of the N50 billion the former governor and the wife made away with vis-à-vis other items thereto. And we give them 7 days to do the Publication or bend their heads downward in shame.

“We also challenge them to publish the properties the former appointees must have left with, either as a group or as individuals. The burden to publish evidence of all these claims is now on Governor Ihedioha and his appointees.

“We equally want to ask that they harmonize their claims because almost all the key appointees of the WhatsApp and Face-Book government in the State have made their diverse Claims on these issues, to the extent that nobody knows who among them should be believed. They should harmonize their claims before the publication.

“The governor himself had made his own claim talking about Cars and N70billion taken away. The Chief of Staff of the governor had equally claimed that the former governor left with 31 Vehicles and about N40 billion. Now the Chairman of the Recovery of what they call government properties, Mr. Ndubuaku has come up with the latest claim of 67 Vehicles and N50 billion. The new Attorney-General, Barr. Ndukwe Nnawuchi has also added his voice by also making the claim of N20 billion against the former governor.

“We want to let Nigerians know that the PDP people in the State are doing their Campaign for possible re-run because they know that, in all considerations, Chief Ihedioha never won that election. All these smear Campaigns against Owelle Okorocha and the wife are geared biasing the minds of Imo people against their beloved former governor in preparation for the possible re-run. This is the fact.

“That is also the reason no day passes without their making one invalid claim against the former governor or the other. If they are not talking about the flyovers built by the former governor being death traps, they would talk about the tunnels not properly built or about vehicles and money taken away.

“They have equally embarked on systematic looting and diverting the attention of Imo people with their repeated claims over non-existent issues. They are also insulting the former governor and the wife by talking about cars taken away.

“We have also taken cognizance of the threat Mr. Ndubuaku issued about mobilizing 6000 youths to go against those he claimed carried away government properties. We are happy that such threat has come from them. And they have only succeeded in putting us on notice. We are now left with no option than to keep our fingers crossed and watch events as they unfold.

“And with the stories associated with the Vehicles at the National Assembly when the governor was leaving as Deputy Speaker, they think that any other person could do such a thing. The PDP people behave like locusts or vampires and they see every other person from that dimension.

“Finally, Nigerians should ignore them until they muster the courage to publish what they have claimed. Since the burden or the yoke of proof is always on the neck of the accuser”.

Tragedy struck yet again on the Dansadau-Gusau road as another explosion killed multiple travellers on Friday, marking the third such incident in less than a week.

The explosion occurred between Dansadau to Malele road, causing significant damage.

A resident of the area who pleaded anonymity for security reasons told Channels Television that a truck vehicle conveying about 100 bags of grains and passengers to Dansadau market hit an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the route, resulting in a devastating explosion.

Authorities and locals have yet to confirm the exact number of casualties, but the resident said several travellers killed during the blast.

“Till now, we are yet to confirm the exact number of people killed, we are waiting for the people from Malele community to give us the actual figures,” the source said.

“The incident happened around 8:30 am, the distance between the scene of the explosion to Dansadau is just few kilometres.”

The source added that the second explosive planted by the terrorists was discovered by the troops who defused it.

“The soldiers who rushed to the scene of the bomb discovered another bomb that was yet to detonate, they used their machine to check and took it inside the bush to defuse it,” he stated.

The recurring blasts have heightened fears among residents and commuters, who now consider the highway a death trap.

Just two days ago, a similar incident claimed the lives of six persons, sparking widespread calls for urgent government intervention.

The police authorities in the state had earlier accused the newly formed terror group Lakurawa as the mastermind of the recent explosions that occurred along the Dansadau-Gusau Road.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has demanded justice and accountability for civilian victims who were allegedly killed by operatives of the Nigerian Army in the Abisari community in Borno state.

A member of the NHRC Governing Council, Kemi Okonyedo, made the demand at the presentation of the report from the investigative panel on human rights violations in counter-insurgency operations in the North-East, to the army.

The report had vindicated the military of forced systemic abortions administered on women but indicted them of intentionally killing civilians in the Abasari community

Okonyedo is demanding that those affected, be compensated.

“The killing of civilians in Abisari remains a grave violation that demands justice, accountability and immediate action,” she said.

“These are not abstract issues, they are real. Lives affected are real, families impacted exist, and communities impacted are still suffering and must be acknowledged and addressed.

“The recommendations of the panel provide a roadmap for addressing these violations, holding perpetrators accountable and ensuring that similar violations do not occur in the future.

“Among the panel’s key recommendations is compensation for the victims of the Abisari killings with the Federal Government ensuring that the families and communities affected are provided adequate reparations.”
