Netflix rejection almost broke me – Filmmaker, Arese Ugwu
Nigerian author and filmmaker, Arese Ugwu, has narrated how streaming giant Netflix dealt her a huge blow after refusing to partner with her on a larger scale.
The 39-year-old writer revealed that she had approached Netflix for sponsorship to make her 2021 TV show, The Smart Money Woman, bigger following its success on the platform and Africa Magic, but the streaming giant turned her down.
She explained that the rejection almost broke her.
Speaking in a recent interview with Afropolitan, Ugwu said, “We were able to produce Season 1 of The Smart Money Woman and got a fantastic reception on Africa Magic and Netflix.
“We were in the top 10 for 13 weeks on Netflix. I then approached Netflix for sponsorship to make the project bigger and better, and shockingly, they turned me down. That rejection almost broke me.”
Ugwu also spoke about her desire to become an established filmmaker and not just an author whose book was adapted for a film.
“I want to establish myself as a filmmaker. I feel like some people still see me as the girl who wrote a book and the book was turned into a TV series,” she said.

Mazraoui explains “aggression-based” approach to Man Utd role
Noussair Mazraoui has explained why he’s able to base his game at Manchester United on natural “aggression”.
The Morocco fullback has worked his way back into the first team after an injury-plagued start to the season.
He told United Review: “I was, kind of, always the smallest.
“I was more technical, like also, defending wise, I couldn’t be too aggressive because, with just one push, then they would beat me.
“So, I think that, through time, it’s being stronger. I think that came more and more into my style of play and I just love to win duels because I know that’s maybe not the most fancy part, or the most fancy job in football, or the most appreciated job in football, but, for the team, that makes a huge difference.
“If you win a duel, instead of running back with a 30-metre sprint, if I lose my duel. Instead of that, the other one can save his energy and use this 30-metre sprint to go on the attack. And that is why I love to be aggressive in the matches.”

Frustrated Trafford ponders demanding Man City transfer exit
The England U21 goalkeeper joined City from Burnley over the summer with the hopes of being their new No1. However, the arrival of Gigio Donnarumma from PSG ended those plans.
The Manchester Evening News says Trafford’s departure now appears “inevitable” as he wants senior football at this stage in his career.
It’s been suggested Trafford could make a transfer demand in the New Year over concerns regarding his England World Cup hopes.
Among clubs watching developments are West Ham United.

I became a comedian after failing at internet fraud – Destalker
Speaking in a recent episode of the In-house Gist podcast, the comedian said the friend who introduced him to internet fraud is now a Christian cleric.
He explained that he failed at internet fraud because he was kindhearted and couldn’t bear to defraud people.
“Before I left Enugu, I tried internet fraud with one of my friend who is now a pastor but I wasn’t successful at it. Then we would book night sessions at cyber cafe for N250. I couldn’t afford it then so my friend always paid for me. He is now a big pastor, Rev. Nelson Umeh.
“However, while he was scouting for victims online to scam, I was busy chatting with my family, friends and old schoolmates from Ughelli on Facebook. After that, I would fall asleep. There is no need for overspending when you are on the wrong lane…
“But today, it is a changed story. Because it [internet fraud] was not my destiny. I can’t defraud a person because I am kindhearted. Because of all that I went through, I have grown so confident that no one can stop me from achieving my goal.
“There were some comedians who said without them I would not perform at certain shows and I told them that I would blow even without performing there. And I did. Some of the shows have gone extinct and some of the comedians are also no longer relevant,” Destalker expressed.
