Many Nigerians go into politics without any plan – Ex-VP Osinbajo

Published

Former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Saturday said most Nigerian leaders venture into politics without adequate preparation.

Osinbajo said due to the lack of preparation of leaders, politics has acquired a bad name in Nigeria.

He spoke at the 2nd Annual Daniel Taiwo Odukoya Memorial Lecture, held at The Fountain of Life Church in Lagos.

Osinbajo, however, noted that despite the disillusion, politics remained the pathway to leadership and influence.

He urged Nigerian youths to actively engage in politics as a vital tool for shaping the country’s leadership and bring about a lasting transformation.

“Politics has acquired a bad name, not just in Nigeria, but across the world. But the truth is, there is no other way to influence a nation except by engaging in the political process.

“If we are not involved in choosing leaders, shaping policy, or participating in political parties, then we forfeit our right to complain when outcomes don’t reflect our values.

“Many people go into politics with nothing, no plan, no knowledge, and end up achieving nothing. Leadership demands more.

“Nigeria’s transformation requires principled, informed, and active participation in the political space.

“This nation is not beyond redemption. But change will only come when citizens, especially those with moral conviction and vision, step forward to lead,” the ex-VP said.

2027: Current Govt may use courts to frustrate ADC – David Mark raises alarm

Published

on

The Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, David Mark, has alleged that the current administration is planning to use the courts to sabotage the party’s rising momentum.

The former Senate President raised the alarm in Abuja during a visit by the National Legal Support Group of the ADC, led by Abdullahi Abdurrahman.

Abdurrahman, at the meeting, revealed that no fewer than 310 lawyers have volunteered to defend the party in all ongoing and future legal cases across Nigeria.

According to him, the legal team has representation in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, and is fully mobilised to tackle any legal challenges the ADC may face.

He said the party’s legal team includes prominent legal figures such as the ADC’s Legal Adviser, Peter Oyewole; former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN; and former Edo State Governor and legal scholar, Professor Oserheimen Osunbor.

“We are prepared to handle any case that may arise against ADC anywhere in the country,” Abdurrahman said.

Abdurrahman stated further that the lawyers believe in the ability of the current leadership to transform the party and make a meaningful contribution to national development.

He also extolled Senator Mark’s integrity, urging him to use his experience and statesmanship to guide the ADC to national prominence.

The leader of the National Legal Support Group urged the party’s Legal Adviser to provide necessary documents and updates on legal matters to help the team work effectively.

Responding, Oyewole assured the group that all legal protocols surrounding the recent coalition that birthed the new ADC were properly followed.

“There is no cause for alarm,” he stated.

Senator Mark, however, expressed concern about possible legal threats.

“ADC is the party to beat in 2027. The current administration may attempt to use the courts to frustrate our momentum,” he warned.

He urged Nigerians to support the ADC as a credible and patriotic alternative to lead the country forward.

Mark also commended the legal team for their dedication, encouraging them to remain alert and proactive as the party positions itself as a strong contender in the next general elections.

With a growing grassroots presence and a formidable legal structure, the ADC says it is ready to defend its vision and engage in the 2027 political contest.
