‘Liverpool Need Luck And Bravery To Beat Man City’ – Jurgen Klopp
Jürgen Klopp has revealed the potent formula required to defeat Pep Guardiola’s teams: courage and luck.
Klopp has seven victories over the Spaniard as Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager. Rather than detail intricate tactical masterplans accounting for this success, Klopp offered a more basic explanation.
“Last year we won the last three games against City, twice in the Champions League and one in the league. After none of these games you go in the dressing room and think, ‘Now we got it, now we know how to beat Manchester City,’” he said. “There is no real way, no one thing you have to do that you can beat them – that’s not there.
“You have to be ready, you need a fantastic football team – which I have, thank God – with an outstanding character, ready for being brave, ready for making mistakes against an outstanding opponent. That’s it and then it can work, that’s all we need to know. But I said it before, always someone is telling me, ‘Good luck for Sunday’, and I think always, unfortunately, we need it.
“We needed it in all the games we played against them and we will need it again, but that’s no problem. If you work hard, you earn it, you deserve it, and that’s what we try to do mixed up with very good football, that’s the plan. You have to create your own moments, you have to be brave in these situations as well and then it can work, but there is no guarantee, absolutely not.”

Morocco Report Senegal To CAF, FIFA Over AFCON Final Protests
The Moroccan Football Federation said Monday it has formally referred to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and FIFA incidents involving Senegalese players and supporters protesting a penalty to Morocco in the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Senegal’s protest in added time of normal play during Sunday night’s clash in Rabat led to the match being paused for nearly 20 minutes as the players walked off the pitch in anger.
Some Senegalese fans at the opposite end of the stadium threw chairs and other objects and attempted to get onto the field of play.
The AFCON hosts’ football federation said these acts “had a significant impact on the normal course of the match and on the players’ performance”, with Morocco then missing the penalty that could have granted them their first African title in 50 years.
The federation said “it will resort to legal procedures” with CAF, the tournament’s organising body, and FIFA “in order to rule on the withdrawal of the Senegalese national team from the field”… “as well as on the events that accompanied this decision”.
It said the referee’s decision to grant the Atlas Lions a penalty was “deemed correct by unanimous opinion of specialists”.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino condemned “some Senegal players” for the “unacceptable scenes”.
Senegal scored the game’s only goal just four minutes into extra time after the players returned to the pitch following an appeal from star forward Sadio Mane.
Several Moroccan media outlets on Monday criticised Senegal for a lack of fair play and unsporting behaviour.

Mother of Destiny Boy reveals real cause of singer’s death
Saida, the mother of the late popular Afrobeat singer Afeez Adeshina, widely known as Destiny Boy, has revealed the circumstances surrounding her son’s death.
The singer, who rose to fame in 2019 with his Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song If, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2025, after battling a long-term mysterious illness known as “Ogu oru,” which frequently caused seizures.
Speaking in a video that trended on Monday, Saida explained that her son’s condition had been closely managed by the family, traditional healers, and clerics.
She said the illness had almost taken a severe toll on him, but they kept it hidden from the public due to his superstar status.
“Destiny went to rest. When he gave birth to his child, about four days after the naming, we went to Oba Edu Ifayomi, who initiated him traditionally. The man likes him as his son, so that’s why he told us to come and collect a ram for the baby’s naming ceremony. It was then that the sickness caught up with him, causing him to fall.
“It was there that we took him to the hospital. Oba Edu said we should ensure he’s properly treated and that he will take care of himself. He kept sending us money even when he was transferred to about two other hospitals. When we saw the trend of the sickness, we told him that we should go traditional, and he said we should bring him to his place. I was the one he even gave the soap to bathe him.
“We returned, and he was fine. The sickness he battled with was ‘Ogu oru,’ which caused him to have seizures. The sickness had almost run him mad. We were the ones who always ensured that he didn’t run out in the process of calming him.”
She further dismissed rumours linking Destiny Boy to money rituals, saying:
“Destiny Boy was not involved in money rituals. Those spreading such misinformation are just seeking attention from his death.”
Recalling his last days, she added:
“On Saturday, he still bought things for people, greeted his fans, and said he had a show on Sunday. Even then, the seizure caught him again.”
Saida also recounted the family’s efforts to seek traditional treatment, including guidance from Oba Edu Ifayomi, who had been closely involved in his care.
The singer had recently celebrated the birth of his first child in November 2024.
Reports by the Ogun State Police Command stated that investigations into his death are ongoing and that further updates will be provided.

Guardiola shrugs off derby defeat as Man City focus on Champions League progress
undefined Manchester City have put the weekend defeat by Manchester United behind them, manager Pep Guardiola said on Monday, with the focus on a top-eight finish in the Champions League where his side are in a much better position than last season.
After Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Old Trafford, Guardiola conceded that the better team won, and two days later he was very much of the same opinion when he spoke in Norway ahead of Tuesday’s game against Bodo/Glimt.
“We’re immediately thinking about this different competition, the chance we have to finish in the top eight,” Guardiola told reporters.
“I think we didn’t talk one word about United. I didn’t review the game but I know right now, and even while watching the game at United, they were better. When a team is better you just have to congratulate them, improve, and move on.”
City are fourth in the Champions League standings on 13 points, and a win at Bodo/Glimt in the penultimate league phase match would put them in the driving seat to qualify automatically for the last 16.
At the same stage of last season’s competition, City lost to eventual winners Paris St Germain before scraping into the playoffs with a win over Club Brugge.
“In that game in Paris, we were 2-0 up, in that moment PSG were out of the competition, then we lost 4-2 and after, unbelievably, they won the Champions League deservedly,” Guardiola said.
“Today we have 13 points, the chance to qualify in the top eight so that is enough argument to be focusing on tomorrow, not on what happened in the past.”
