Kebbi Kidnap: Use Your Powers Against Bandits – Fayemi Tells Hunters, Vigilante
Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State has called on local hunters and vigilantes to use all their powers against bandits.
Fayemi made the submission while addressing local hunters and vigilantes groups in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital.
He said: “Our Governor (Bagudu) has put on a good fight. That is the demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of his people. We know, we would overcome these challenges. There are lessons from it, for our own states too where we have federal government colleges and we have ordinary schools belonging to the state.
“Hunters and people of the state should use all power within their possession to end bandits attack.
‘’And we must protect our children, we must protect our people. Because, our first job as the governors is the security and welfare of our people. And God Almighty will be with us to realise the objective of protecting our people in sha Allahu.”
Recall that Ghgossip reported that 5 abducted students have been freed by troops following a rescue operation by the Joint Taskforce Component of Operation Hadari Daji. Sadly, one of the abducted students from Federal Government College Birnin Yauri in Kebbi State has died.
Air Commodore Abubakar AbdulKadir, Deputy Force Commander of the Joint Taskforce in the North-West Zone, told reporters that five others, including four kids and a teacher, had been rescued from their abduc tors.
Abdulkadir, who didn’t disclose the name of the deceased student or the circumstances surrounding his death, stated that troops came into touch with the bandits in the early hours of today, June 18, and engaged them in a gunfight forcing them to flee without five pupils and a teacher.
According to Abubakar, spokesperson of the Kebbi Police, the number of students missing during the attack still remains sketchy. He said;
“The attention of the police has been drawn to reports made by some media stations that a police vehicle was used in kidnapping about 50 students of the FGC.
“A White Hilux Van with registration No. kBSJ 29 belonging to a High Court judge with inscription of Kebbi State Judiciary, hijacked by bandits on Birnin Yauri road was the one used in the kidnapping and not a police vehicle as stated by some media stations.
“The command wishes to make it clear and set the records straight that yet to be ascertained number of students are still missing as rescue operation is still ongoing.”

Over 43,000 new voters register in Adamawa CVR exercise – INEC
The ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise in Adamawa State, organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission, has recorded 43,380 new registrations as of July 7, 2026.
Local government-by-local government registration data made available to Saturday PUNCH by the Adamawa State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammed Nura, showed that as of July 2, 2026, women accounted for 22,527 registrations, while men recorded 20,853, bringing the total to 43,380.
The REC, who was the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Yobe State in 1994, said that the CVR exercise was organised to ensure that citizens who attained the age of 18 after the last general election are able to participate in future polls.
He said, “The main purpose of the CVR exercise is to ensure that youths who could not participate in the last general elections because they were underage are given the opportunity to participate after attaining the constitutional voting age of 18.
“We were supposed to end the exercise on July 7, 2026, but I still believe the headquarters may approve an extension since the elections are still some time away.”
Nura said the CVR exercise also enables those who have changed their place of residence to transfer their voter registration to their new locations, while those who have lost their Permanent Voter Cards can apply for replacements during the exercise.
He further stated that the exercise was designed to ensure that all eligible Nigerians are registered to participate in the general elections and elect their leaders.
The REC called on political parties in the state to mobilise members who are yet to obtain their voter cards to take advantage of the exercise and register.
Nura assured Nigerians that the commission was prepared to conduct one of the best general elections in the country’s history.
