‘I was tomboy before my ex-husband rebranded me’ – Tiwa Savage

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has revealed that she wasn’t a sexy diva initially, stressing that she was a tomboy before venturing into music.
She explained that during her days as a songwriter abroad, she wore baggy clothes before meeting her ex-husband and former manager, Tunji Balogun, aka Teebillz, who rebranded her.
Featuring in a recent episode of the Afrobeats Intelligence podcast hosted by Joey Akan, Savage recounted how Teebillz rebranded her into a sex symbol after relocating to Nigeria to pursue a singing career.
She said, “The sexiness in my 2024 single ‘Wanted’ music video felt groundbreaking at that time. Because I just got married and there’s a lot of press saying, ‘She’s not going to be desirable anymore. She’s finished. Her time is gone. There are new people on the scene.’ So, I was just like, let me do something crazy.
“That was me being rebellious. I was like, Oh! You guys think I’m not sexy anymore? To be honest, that wasn’t the aim, to just try to be sexy. Because naturally, I’m not. Naturally, I’m a tomboy. But again, TJ [Tunji Balogun] saw that there was a gap in the market and he was just like, you’ve to lose weight, you’ve to go to the gym, you’ve to start waxing your eyebrows. You’ve to start wearing wigs. He literally changed my whole appearance. I was not like that in L.A. when he met me.
“I used to be a songwriter in the studio wearing baggy jeans and t-shirt. And he literally changed that. I don’t think that he thought there was going to be a backlash. He was just like, let’s give them the African Rihanna or Beyoncé. I was like, okay, let’s go ahead. And we came back to Nigeria, but my fashion sense attracted criticism. Then, I ran back to L.A.
“I was really bad. I would go to shows and I would be waiting backstage and they wouldn’t call me because maybe the governor’s wife had said I can’t come up or they’d say, make sure you don’t wear any of those your skimpy dresses. I’m not making this up. There was a time, ‘Love Me’ was banned on TV. I was discouraged. I remembered Bizzle called me and told me ladies were loving me, so I came back to Nigeria. I’ve told the story where I went to all the labels and they all said no, Storm Records, Mo’Hits, Banky W’s EME, everyone.”

Why marriages don’t work anymore – Blessing CEO

Controversial relationship therapist, Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO has opened up about the problems facing modern marriages.
In a recent interview with Instablog TV, she attributed the failure of many marriages in the current generation to excessive talking and social media usage.
According to her, the traditional community structures that once helped resolve marital issues are no longer effective in modern times.
She noted that the exposure and independence that women have today can be both a blessing and a curse, as some women struggle to manage their independence and balance their relationships.
The relationship therapist emphasized that a woman’s success can make her husband feel insecure, not because of her achievements, but because of the perceived threat to his masculinity.
She advised women to remain soft and feminine, even in the face of success, noting that when women become too assertive or competitive, it can lead to their husbands seeking comfort elsewhere or ending the marriage.
“In our generation, because I am working and earning money, even if I am quarreling with my husband, what do I need to go to my husband for? Once a woman becomes independent, they begin to rub shoulders with men.
“A lot of people say that whenever a woman becomes successful the man becomes insecure. The truth is that no man is intimidated by your success, they are only afraid of the masculinity that comes with success.
“So women should always remember to be soft, no matter how much you have, because once you start to drag shoulders with your husband, he begins to cheat and look for a woman that is softer or he leaves the marriage,” Blessing CEO said.

Spending, a close friend of the late singer Mohbad, has come out to deny rumours circulating on social media that he is the biological father of Mohbad’s son, Liam.
The speculation gained momentum after a post was shared online, highlighting a striking resemblance between Spending and Liam, which sparked heated debates and scrutiny over the child’s paternity.

It’s time for UK rappers to get respect they deserve – Skepta
British Grime star Skepta has said the era where UK rappers are underrated is over.
He stated that now is the time for British hip-hop artists to get the respect they deserved.
Speaking in a recent interview with Link UP TV, Skepta explained that his recent challenge to US rappers for a rap battle between them and UK rappers was for Grime artists to be given their deserved accolades.
He further explained that his intention was not to humiliate US rappers.
“My challenge to US rappers was me saying it is time to get the respect we [UK rappers] deserve. It wasn’t from a place of we are going to annihilate them [US rappers] even though I feel that it is definitely possible. It is more of we want the respect,” he said.
Meanwhile, Drake has added his voice to the ongoing debate over the superiority of US and UK rap, declaring that the UK has the best rappers.
Speaking midway into his headline performance at the Wireless Festival in London on Saturday, the Canadian rapper claimed that no rapper from anywhere in the world can defeat English rappers in a rap battle.
