….Decries High Level Of Poverty In Nigeria

…Asks Tinubu To Retrieve the 2014 Confab

Chief Bode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that he owes President Bola Tinubu prayers because Nigeria must move forward.

George, who spoke during a press conference on Wednesday stated that since the legal battles have been put to rest, the country must move forward even though he agreed with the ruling of the Supreme Court.

He said, “What I owe Tinubu now is prayers forget about differences in political affiliations, this nation must move forward. As opposition we must keep them on their toes for the good of our nation. That is the responsibility that I foresee as an opposition party. If there is no strong opposition we’ll take this country on a futile journey.

He challenges Tinubu to do something concrete that will improve the welfare of Nigerians. “The poverty level that we’re in has never been like this in the history of this country.

“It’s a hell of a job for the President and his team. It is wrong to give a huge amount of money to an individual every 30 days like the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs did. Has she accounted for the money she collected? When you take the government’s money, you don’t account for it. It’s not a good method of reaching out to people. There are millions of people who are living in abject poverty. There are cases of people trying to jump into the lagoon to commit suicide,’ he said.

While answering questions about his thoughts on the government of national unity which has been suggested by Tinubu, he said, “It’s time for governance now. If he said he wants to have a unity government, not about myself anyway but each party will look at the cases before jumping in, and there is no individualism in a political organsation. It is not the property of any individual, collectively they will decide. If you are a real party man you cannot work outside your party. The party will look at the issues and take appropriate decisions. When Obasanjo was elected, he opened the gates for other parties to be part of his government not on individual basis.

The PDP chieftain, while speaking on the Supreme Court judgment, said, “I disagree with the Supreme Court judgment in two areas. The definition that Justice Okoro gave on the status of Abuja. Abuja is not a state and the statement is that you must have the majority of the votes and you must have 25 percent in two third of 36 states of the federation, which means 24 states and Abuja. We may need to ask the English people to translate that statement for us.

“The other one that was very shocking to me was the issue of transmission of election results. It also means that manipulators are also acceptable. Why did Buhari spend so much buying new equipment so we can be like other civilized nations? Of course Prof Mahmood Yakubu was quick to tell us that there was a glitch on the D-day. Yakubu did a lot of mess to this country. He should go back and ask God for forgiveness.

While speaking on the suggestions made by Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar on a single five year term for President.

He said that any such action would require a constitutional amendment even as he said that the 1999 constitution is the bane of our democratic progress.

The Atona Oodua of Yorubaland, however asked Tinubu to pick up the 2014 National Confab document from the archives where former President Muhammadu Buhari kept it, pointing out that the best thing for Nigeria at the moment is a restructured country.

He also shed light on the plan of the PDP to reconcile, form a formidable opposition that will put the ruling party on its toes.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday asked Christians in the country to use the Holy Week and Easter to reflect on the enduring values of sacrifice, redemption, love, and hope.

The President made the call in a message he signed on Good Friday, two days to the Easter celebrations.

According to Tinubu, he was saddened by the recent insecurity in the country. He also directed security operatives to decisively end the insecurity without delay.

“The recent tragic incidents and the loss of lives in some parts of our country deeply saddened me. I understand the pain and fear these incidents have caused. Let me assure you that my administration’s resolve to restore peace and security remains unshakable. Forces of evil will never prevail over our country,” Tinubu said.

“I have given clear directives to the Armed Forces and all relevant security agencies to end insecurity decisively and without delay. With the unwavering courage and commitment of our gallant men and women in uniform, we are turning the tide and making steady progress in reclaiming peace and stability.

“As President of our blessed nation, I draw inspiration from this timeless message of hope and renewal. I remain steadfast in my commitment to delivering the promise of a Renewed Hope, a better, more just, and prosperous Nigeria for all.

“The Holy Week, which spans Palm Sunday through Holy Thursday and Good Friday and culminates in Easter Sunday, calls us to reflect deeply on the enduring values of sacrifice, redemption, love, and hope.”

The President also expressed gratitude to Nigerians for their “patience and resilience as our economy begins to show encouraging signs of recovery.”

“We understand the economic challenges many of you are facing, and we are working tirelessly to restore investor confidence, stabilise key sectors, and build an inclusive economy that serves the interests of all Nigerians.

“During this Easter, we join the global Christian community in thanking God for Pope Francis’s recovery. We pray that his renewed strength continues to inspire his leadership and service to humanity.

“I earnestly pray that Easter’s spirit fills every heart and home with renewed faith in the immense possibilities ahead of us as a nation. Just as Christ triumphed over death, so too shall our country triumph over every challenge we face. The present moment may be cloudy, but it will usher in a glorious day,” he added.
