Heskey Advises Liverpool To Sign Osimhen

Published

on

Former England forward, Emile Heskey has advised Liverpool to sign Victor Osimhen.

Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs interested in signing Osimhen from Serie A club, Napoli.

Fellow Premier League clubs, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, as well as European champions, Real Madrid are also credited with an interest in the Nigeria international.

The 23-year-old has scored 10 goals and recorded three assists in 14 appearances across all competitions for Napoli this season.

The Nigeria international was recently named “Emerging Young Player of the Year” at the Global Soccer Award in Doha, Qatar.

“He (Osimhen) would certainly give them something different to what they have now,” Heskey noted. “He’s different to Nunez who can play out wide; Osimhen would be that central goal threat,” Heskey told Anfield Watch.

“He’s quick, has an eye for goal, and can finish really well with both feet. He’s a top player. I think Napoli paid quite a lot for him, so that’s why he’s commanding a €100m transfer fee.

Osimhen joined Napoli from Ligue 1 club, Lille, in 2020 and has a contract until 2025.

Napoli are not willing to sell Osimhen in January, and any potential deal will be done next summer.

Their €100m price tag could also ward off the interest of interested clubs.

Madrid Beats Al Ahly 4-1, Zoom Into Club World Cup Final

Published

on

Real Madrid secured its place in the Club World Cup final with a 4-1 win against Egyptian club Al Ahly on Wednesday to keep alive its quest for a record-extending eighth world title.

Vinícius Júnior, Federico Valverde, Rodrygo and Sergio Arribas scored for the Spanish side, which will play Al-Hilal in Saturday’s final. The Saudi Arabian team beat Brazilian club Flamengo 3-2 on Tuesday.

Madrid has won the world club title a record seven times, including three times when the competition was called the Intercontinental Cup. Madrid is chasing its first world club title since 2018.

Ali Maaloul scored the lone goal for Al Ahly, with his team already trailing 2-0 in the second half. Vinícius opened the scoring in the 42nd minute for his 50th goal in 202 matches with Madrid.

Valverde added to the lead early in the second half before Rodrygo and Arribas sealed the victory in stoppage time. It was the first goal for the 21-year-old Arribas with Madrid’s first team.

EPL: Leeds United Hold Man United 2-2 At Old Trafford

Published

on

Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho combined to deny managerless Leeds a rare Old Trafford victory as Manchester United came back from two goals down to snatch a point from a thrilling Roses clash.

The hosts looked finished when Raphael Varane turned Crysencio Summerville’s cutback into his own net to put Leeds two ahead after Wilfried Gnonto had given them a first-minute lead.

But Rashford halved the deficit when he headed home Diogo Dalot’s inviting cross before Sancho, only just back to first-team duties after recovering from physical and mental issues, scored his first Premier League goal since September when he drove home from 10 yards after Luke Shaw’s initial shot had been blocked.

Varane brought an excellent save out of Illan Meslier as Manchester United hunted a goal to extend their 13-match winning streak on home soil.

Anything less than a point would have been extremely harsh on Leeds, who sacked manager Jesse Marsch on Monday, and they also hit the post through Brenden Aaronson in between the home side’s two goals.

The result moves them a point clear of the relegation zone and above West Ham into 16th, although after this superb contest, the Elland Road rematch in four days’ time will be an occasion to relish.

Guinea Bissau will host the Super Eagles of Nigeria in Morocco in a 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matchday three encounter.

The match will hold on Thursday, March 23, with the reverse fixture slated for the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja four days later.

Guinea-Bissau’s home stadia, Estadio 24 de Setembro and Estadio Lino Correia were not approved by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host games in the qualifiers.

The two grounds failed to meet CAF’s requirements to host international matches.

According to reports emanating from the West African country, the Guinea Bissau Football Federation have been granted permission by their Moroccan counterpart to host their home games in the country.

The Djurtus are second in Group B with four points from two games.

Baciro Cande’s side lost 2-0 to the Super Eagles the last time both teams met in a group game at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
