Gospel singer, Nanyah died despite all resuscitation efforts — FMC Abuja
The Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Abuja, has reacted to the death of singer, Ifunanya Nwagene, popularly known as Nanyah, clarifying that medical personnel made concerted efforts to save her life after she was brought to the hospital following a snake bite.
The hospital explained that Nwagene arrived at the facility alive and was immediately attended to by doctors, but her condition deteriorated due to complications arising from the bite.
“Our medical team made every possible efforts to stabilise her, but unfortunately, she did not survive,” the hospital stated.
The hospital also denied that they lacked anti-venom, which was attributed to Ifunanya’s death.
Nwagene died on Saturday at the FMC after suffering complications linked to the snake bite in the Federal Capital Territory.
Her death was confirmed on Sunday afternoon by the Amemuso Choir, where she was a soprano singer.
In a brief statement signed by the choir’s Music Director, Sam Ezugwu, the group announced the singer’s passing.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved soprano, Ifunanya Nwagene, also known as Nanyah,” the statement read, adding that she died after complications from a snake bite.
The singer was known within choral and gospel music circles for her vocal strength and dedication, with colleagues describing her as a promising talent whose loss has left a deep void.
Since news of her death emerged, tributes have continued to pour in from fans and members of the music community, many of whom have expressed shock over the sudden nature of the incident.
As of the time of filing this report, further details surrounding the snake bite incident have not been officially disclosed.

Women are backbone of Nollywood, says Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde
Award-winning Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has said that women are the backbone of Nigeria’s film industry, saying they dominate key areas and often operate multiple businesses alongside their acting careers.
Speaking during an interview at Naija FM 102.7 which was shared on Youtube on Friday and has since been trending, the actress emphasised the critical role women have played in sustaining Nollywood from its early days.
“Women are the ones who hold this industry, right from the start. Women are the ones who do well for this industry. Women are mostly the producers. Women are the ones who hold Nollywood really,” she said.
She further highlighted the entrepreneurial drive among female actors, noting that many of them run multiple businesses in addition to acting.
“I don’t know any female actor, even small ones who just entered this industry, that don’t get at least like three or four businesses,” she said. “A lot of the females get businesses. They run different things. Most of them are influencers. They are doing acting, modelling, they have shops.
“You will hear say this one get boutique, that one gets this one, virtually everybody I know gets one or the other. Our job is very intense. You have to be on call. With acting, this is crazy to me. I think the balance must be there,”
Omotola also compared the experiences of male and female actors, stating that while men receive admiration, the level of attention women get is more intense.
“Male actors too dey try, but I don’t think it’s as intense as the women,” she said. “Women get admirers. Men too get admirers wey dey help them, but women have more.”
Omotola went on to reveal that even as a married woman, she continues to receive assistance and gifts from admirers, both men and women.
“Me, wey be married woman sef, I know how many people don dash me things. Asin women and men not be just men, women and men just see me, just say, ‘Oh, I’m sending you this, they don dash me car before sef”she said.
Despite the attention and gifts, the actress emphasised that her husband remains completely secure in their marriage.
“My husband is the most secure. How you go marry Omosexy and you no go Dey secure. My husband is the most secure human being you will ever meet. The most secure, you know, no shaking,” she stated.
Omotola, who has been married for over two decades, is often regarded as one of Nollywood’s most admired actresses and has frequently spoken about the importance of trust and stability in marriage.
