#SexForGrades: Fani Kayode, Ezekwesili Demand Punishment For Dr. Boniface, Others

By Augustine Akhilomen

Former presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN) in the 2019 election, Obiageli Ezekwesili, has condemned the action of the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to have suspended the license of the Daar Communications, owner of AIT and Raypower.

On Thursday the commission revoked the licence of the company, citing grounds that the media house failed to abide by the ethics of broadcasting.

However, in a tweet by the former minister of education on Friday, she stated that the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration wants to deny the media the freedom of the press.

“My Summary of this lengthy Sanctions letter from NBC to AIT is simply this: ‘We have warned you several times in the past to stop broadcasting things that upset the Government and NBC. You refused to listen. Now we shall shut you up and down until you are ready to be like NTA’.

“There is nothing in that letter from NBC to AIT that reaches the threshold for withdrawal of license and shut down of a Media house that we all know Government perceives as an ‘Opposition media’. Wisdom should have actually instructed the FG against striking out at them,” she wrote

In the same vein, former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, says the move by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to suspend the operation of Daar Communication is a sign of the dark time to come in the media industry.

He made this known on Friday via his twitter handle @realFFK, where he said that he fear for the worst for the Nigerian media under the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“I warned Nigerians in 2015 and I was maligned and hated for it. I warned Nigerians in 2019 and I was ignored, despised and ostracised for it. Even now Nigerians still don’t know the nature of the monster that plagues and afflicts them. The worst is yet to come.

‘It’s mischievous,’ Presidency denies claim Shettima was barred from Aso Villa

Published

on

The Presidency has described as false and mischievous reports alleging that Vice President Kashim Shettima was denied access to the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, the Presidency said the claims were “totally fabricated” and aimed at misleading the public into believing there was a rift between President Bola Tinubu and his deputy.

The statement was titled ‘Re: Mischievous Report On Access To The Presidential Villa By Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON’.

“The latest in this string of disinformation is a report claiming that the Vice President has been refused entry to the Villa.

“This is a feeble attempt to traduce the person and office of His Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON. For the record, nothing of the sort ever happened,” the statement read.

The report, which circulated via “obscure blogs,” alleged that military personnel had barricaded the entrance of the Villa to prevent the Vice President from entering.

Nkwocha dismissed the claim as “the wildest expression of wishful thinking” and accused those behind it of attempting to sow discord within the government.

The statement added, “It is understandable, though regrettable, that the mischief-makers continue to underestimate the strength of the bond and goodwill between the President and the Vice President.

“However, their questionable sources or habitual reliance on misinformation have once again led them astray. These fairy tales they publish serve no purpose beyond mischief and distraction.”

The statement also recalled a similar rumour earlier in the week regarding campaign posters bearing the image of Tinubu, which was also debunked by the Presidency.

Nkwocha assured Nigerians that Shettima remains focused on his duties and would not be distracted by “the imagination of individuals intent on creating smoke where there is no fire.”

He urged members of the public to disregard the report and encouraged journalists to verify information from credible sources, stating that no amount of falsehood would undermine the democratic mandate of the Tinubu administration.
