DOHA2019: Jamaica’s Fraser Pryce Becomes World’s Fastest Woman

Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce ran a 10.71 seconds to win the world 100 metres title at the 2019 World Championships in Doha,  instantly earning herself title of the fastest woman in the world.

Fraser-Pryce, who was away in the 2017 edition of the tournament to have her son, stunned with a 10.80 to become the world’s fastest ever in the heats. She went on to race an amazing 10.87 in the semi-finals before a 10.71 in the final to seal a fourth world title (2009, 2013, 2015 and 2019).

U.K’s Dina Asher Smith came behind in 10.83 to seal a new British record and her first world senior medal. Cote d’Ivoire’s Marie-Josee Ta Lou settled for bronze in 10.90 after clinching silver in the previous edition in 2017, London.

IAAF celebrated Fraser-Pryce by likening her with a unicorn, a mythical animal typically represented as a horse with a single straight horn projecting from its forehead.

Why I Made Mbappe Captain Ahead Of Griezmann -Deschamps

Published

on

France manager, Didier Deschamps, has explained why he handed Kylian Mbappe the team’s captain armband ahead of Antoine Griezmann.

According to Deschamps, he opted to make Mbappe captain of France’s national team because the Paris Saint-Germain forward ticked all the boxes to lead Les Bleus.

Speaking with Tout le Sport on France 3, Deschamps said it is only natural and logical that Mbappe is made captain of the team.

He said, “He [Kylian Mbappe] ticked all the boxes to be it at some point. It is natural and logical that Kylian is made captain, especially from the point where he also wants it.”

Asked if there was any element of disappointment on the part of Griezmann, Deschamps added, “He knew very well that he had the possibility of being it (captain). I spoke with him, but despite it, all giving it to Kylian isn’t taking it away from Antoine.”

Pay £132m, Get Osimhen, Napoli Tells Other Clubs

Published

on

Serie A league leaders Napoli told Manchester United the very amount to make available if they are serious about signing Victor Osimhen this summer.

The Italian side will not sell the Nigeria international this summer unless the Red Devils arrive with a bid of €150million (£132m).

Manchester United have prioritised signing a top striker at the end of the season and have reportedly lined up the likes of Tottenham star Harry Kane and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos.

Osimhen is currently enjoying a sublime season with the Italian side, scoring 25 goals in 29 appearances with Napoli into the Champions League quarter-finals and leading Serie A by 18 points..

According to Il Mattino Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils are indeed eager to sign the striker this summer, with Osimhen likely to be keen on listening to the club should they push forward with a bid.

But Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli have decided the player will not leave for a penny less than €150m.

The Napoli chiefs will not even discuss a deal unless that offer is on the table with the club under no financial pressure to cash in on one of their prized assets.

Spurs believe that figure will be enough to deter United and remain confident of Kane signing a new contract with the club, with his current deal up in 2024
