De Bruyne Difficult To Replace For Man City, Says Guardiola

Published

on

Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City face an almost impossible job in replacing Kevin De Bruyne thanks to the impact the Belgian has made over the past 10 years.

De Bruyne has won six Premier League titles among 13 major trophies since joining City in 2015, a year before Guardiola’s arrival.

The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has previously hinted he could be tempted by the riches on offer in the Saudi Pro League.

“I would like to have a 23-year-old Kevin and sign a contract for 10 more years,” Guardiola said on Friday.

“There are players that impact the legacy of this club and will be there forever.

“It’s not easy (to replace), but in the moment it’s going to happen we’ll see.”

De Bruyne was instrumental to City snapping a seven-game winless run by beating Nottingham Forest 3-0 on Wednesday in his first start for nearly three months.

Guardiola has been cautiously managing the playmaker’s minutes but conceded he may be pressed into selecting De Bruyne again for Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace due to an injury crisis.

“We don’t have many players so we’ll see,” added Guardiola.

“Important (to have him) back but after a long time. (Now we play) three days, three days, three days, we’ll see how does he react to this amount of games.”

Phil Foden remains out due to illness, while Nathan Ake is sidelined by a muscle injury late on against Forest.

Rodri, John Stones, Mateo Kovacic and Oscar Bobb are also missing for the English champions.

Chelsea activate clause to recall 25-year-old to join Maresca’s team

Published

Chelsea have activated clause to recall Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace with immediate effect.

This was disclosed by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano in a tweet on X on Wednesday.

Chalobah had to leave Chelsea to join Crystal Palace last summer on loan after he was not included in manager Enzo Maresca’s plan for this season.

However, both Chelsea and Maresca have now decided to bring the 25-year-old back to Stamford Bridge this January transfer window.

Chalobah was not included in Crystal Palace’s squad to face Leicester City tonight.

“Chelsea have activated clause to recall Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace with immediate effect,” Romano tweeted.

“Decision made by Enzo Maresca and the club’s management after many injuries with some defenders also set to leave.

“Chalobah leaves immediately, as David_Ornstein reports.”

Chelsea are keen to bolster their defense with defender Wesley Fofana currently injured.

Mbappe not robot – Thierry Henry fumes at critics

Published

on

Former Arsenal and Barcelona striker, Thierry Henry, has hit out at critics of Kylian Mbappe, insisting that the Real Madrid star is not a robot.

Mbappe has come under serious scrutiny since he arrived at the Bernabeu from Paris Saint-Germain.

The forward had been expected to take La Liga by storm but so far, he has failed to show his very best form consistently.

The France captain has, however, scored 10 goals in 17 league fixtures for Los Blancos.

Mbappe has also had to get used to a different set-up in Madrid, playing in a more central role, rather than out wide, due to the presence of Vinicius Jr in Madrid’s starting XI.

Henry, speaking with RMC, feels Mbappe has been judged unfairly during his time in Spain.

“Human beings, from time to time, yes, they can be affected and that’s completely normal,” Henry said.

“And that, for me, is completely normal. At one point, everyone thought he was a robot.

“He’s not a robot, he’s a human being who has emotions like everyone else. And from time to time, he’s going to get angry and throw up his arms.”
