Boban: Flick’s Barcelona were never going to win the Champions League

AC Milan legend Zvonimir Boban insists Barcelona were never good enough to win the Champions League.

Barca were dumped out at the quarterfinal stage by Atletico Madrid last night, despite winning the second-leg 2-1 at the Metropolitano. Atletico won the tie 3-2 on aggregate.

Boban told Sky Italia: “Barcelona will never win the Champions League with this team. With this defence and a striker like Ferran Torres, with all due respect…

“If you think about it, the same things have been happening with (Hansi) Flick for two years: the high line gets caught in the back, he doesn’t know how to correct.

“It’s right to stay high if you’re pressing, but if you don’t manage it, it’s too risky.”

Lingard thrives in Brazil with Corinthians

Published

on

Jesse Lingard is loving with Corinthians in Brazil as he continues to impress manager Fernando Diniz.

Last month the former Manchester United star bagged his first goal since joining the Brazilian outfit as they beat Barra 1-0 in the first leg of their Copa do Brasil fifth round tie.

The forward became the first and only Englishman to have scored in the Copa do Brasil as he made history in South America.

Now, he has completed his first full 90 minutes for the club in Wednesday’s clash against Independiente Santa Fe in Bogota in what was an impressive performance.

The club drew 1-1 and Diniz picked out Lingard who, despite not scoring, thinks he had his best game yet.

“Jesse made one of his best matches today. If you consider the difficulty of the game, maybe it was his best game.

“Against Peñarol he was good, but the team was very inspired. He finished the game well; he still had gas.”

On including Lingard after a domestic game and a long-haul flight: “When something happens, some uninformed person comes along and says, Ah, but he repeated the team. The physiology, performance and medical department is great; it gathers the best number of elements possible to make the best decisions.”

Lingard was linked to Wrexham during their promotion push to the Premier League which fell through. He looks to have made the right move to Brazil where he looks to be growing in confidence each week.

Carrick Call For ‘Clarity’ On Permanent Man Utd Job

Published

on

Michael Carrick has called for “clarity” regarding the Manchester United managerial situation, suggesting that now is the “natural time” for a definitive decision.

Despite guiding the Red Devils back into the Champions League, the interim boss is still waiting to discover if he will be handed the reins on a permanent basis.

The former United midfielder has performed admirably since stepping into the breach in January after Ruben Amorim’s sacking, but with only three games remaining, his long-term status at Old Trafford remains unresolved.

Speaking about the situation, Carrick noted: “Clarity is important … We’ve finished strong, put ourselves in a good position and the situation of my role and what it looks like moving forward, I think it’s just the natural time. It was always spoken about towards the end of the season, if not the end of the season.”

The interim head coach has already achieved the primary objective of securing Champions League football for next season.

However, despite the success on the pitch and the reported high probability that he will be offered the role, Carrick admits he is currently in the dark and has received no official confirmation from the club’s hierarchy.

Reflecting on the productive period under his leadership, Carrick added: “At this stage it’s just putting the boys in a place to finish the season strongly and then, as I’ve said all along, I’m calm about it. It’ll get sorted out when it’s going to get sorted out. It’s out of my hands, so we’ll see what happens.”

Since Carrick took over, United have collected more points than any other team in the Premier League, winning 10 of his 14 matches in charge.

This remarkable run of form has seen the club climb to third place, and they travel to Sunderland this Saturday looking to cement that position before the season concludes.

Controversial streamer Cater Efe has challenged Grammy-winning singer Wizkid to a boxing showdown.

Speaking during a recent livestream with Kcee and E-Money, Carter Efe said after dethroning Portable as champion of celebrity boxing in Nigeria, he now wants to fight Wizkid.

He said he would prefer to have Wizkid’s first son Boluwatife Balogun in attendance when he face his father in the ring.

“The person I want to fight with now is Wizkid and I want his son, Boluwatife to be there too. Let him come and collect the championship from me if he is man enough,” he said.

Carter Efe has been beefing Wizkid after he accused the Starboy boss of not supporting him enough when he released a tribute song for him entitled ‘Manchala’ years ago.

Wizkid has largely ignored Carter Efe’s tantrums over the years.

He is yet to react to Cater Efe’s boxing match challenge.
