Powerful Cabal Behind Gaidom’s Emergence- Tinubu

…It’s Over For You, FFK Tells Tinubu

…NEC Meeting Illegal, We Won’t Attend- NWC

By Augustine Akhilomen

National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday said the factional Acting Chairman of the party, Victor Gaidom was being instigated by powerful individuals to assume the position.

His reaction is coming on the heels of President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to throw his weight behind Gaidom as the authentic Acting National Chairman of the party and also endorsing the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting called by the latter.

Tinubu, in a statement from his media officer accused some members of the party of fuelling the lingering crisis for their personal interest, warning that those behind it were causing a great disservice to the party.

“We even had a National Deputy Secretary improperly calling for an NEC meeting on the basis that he believed himself to be the acting National Chairman.

“Clearly, this man would not have summoned the temerity to make such a move had he not been instigated by powerful individuals, whom he thought would reward or, at least, protect him for committing the wrongful act.

Tinubu also said that some forces against the suspended National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole were doing so on the basis that he would pose an obstacle to their 2023 ambitions.

“The [coup] plotters launched their attack solely because they perceive the chairman as an obstacle to their 2023 ambitions.

“In a well-structured society, people come to understand that the time for politics is seasonal; it is periodic. The responsibilities of governance are what are perpetual. Many of our politicians sadly have inverted this reality.

He said many leaders in the party, like himself, have put in their sweat and tears to build the party not for personal ambition for the good of Nigeria.

“We must rally around President Buhari. Instead of everyone saying they are working for the party and nation but going their separate ways based on their selfish designs, we must help him build a stronger national consensus on policies that will ensure safety and bring greater prosperity.

“Many of us expended sweat, tears, toil, and sleepless nights to build this party. Our personal sacrifices were not insignificant. We built this party not simply as a vehicle for personal ambition. We built the party because we saw it as perhaps the only enduring hope to bring progressive governance to this nation,” he said.

Reacting to the ongoing crisis in the APC, former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode said Buhari’s recognition of Gaidom as Acting National Chairman has spelt doom for Bola Tinubu’s political stronghold.

Fani Kayode while reacting, tweeted, “First Oshiomhole is kicked out by the Court of Appeal. Then his preferred replacement, Ajimobi, falls into a coma. Then his arch rival, Gaidom, is recognized by Buhari as National Chairman.

“Conclusion: it is over for Tinubu. He has been thrown under the bus and retired from politics!”

More so, Waziri Bulama, National Secretary of APC has insisted the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the APC called by Victor Giadom is illegal.

In a statement on Wednesday, Bulama, while citing court rulings, said members of the party should ignore the notice of the NEC meeting as he insisted Giadom is not part of the national working committee (NWC) or an APC member.

“We are constrained to once again react to a purported invitation to a National Executive Committee meeting of our great party; the All Progressives Congress (‘APC’) issued by one Victor Giadom who until the last general elections in 2019 held the position of deputy national secretary of the party,” the national secretary said.

“Our esteemed members are advised to disregard this invitation because the author and sole signatory of the said invitation is not by a member of the National Working Committee (‘NWC’) of our party, talk more of being an Acting National Chairman as claimed.

“He had voluntarily resigned in compliance with Article 31(1)(i) of our Constitution to contest the position of Deputy Governor in Rivers State during the last general elections and has not been re-nominated by his Zone to return to that office.

“Further, his non-membership of the NWC has been affirmed by the Courts and an Order restraining him from parading himself as a member of the NWC.

“Our leader, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is renowned for insisting on compliance with our constitution and rule of law.

“It can therefore not be true that Mr. President supports the convening of such an illegal NEC by a non-member of APC’s NWC. We urge all to disregard the said notice as neither the NWC nor the NEC has called for such a meeting.”

They Want To Sabotage 2023 Election, Shehu Sani Gives Reasons Gunmen Are Attacking INEC Offices

Published

on

A former Kaduna senator, Shehu Sani has revealed that the reason criminals are attacking and burning offices and other facilities of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was to sabotage the 2023 general elections.

Gunmen have been on a rampage attacking and burning down INEC infrastructures across the country, particularly in the Southeast.

Recall that the INEC office in Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State was torched by unknown hoodlums on Sunday.

Some of the properties razed down were 340 ballot boxes, 14 power generators, 130 voting cubicles, large water storage tanks, office furniture and a large number of voter cards.

Reacting to the incident, Shehu Sani in a tweet on Monday said that the attackers are enemies of progress who do not want the general elections to be conducted in 2023.

He said, “The ultimate aim of those attacking and burning down INEC offices is to sabotage the coming general elections.

“They are enemies of democracy. It’s a patriotic duty for people to defy violence and rise up against those anarchists.”

2023: We’ll Reproduce Burnt PVCs, Attacks Can’t Stop Elections, INEC Assures

Published

on

A former Akwa Ibom State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mike Igini says attacks on the offices of the electoral umpire are attacks on democracy but non-state actors can’t stop the conduct of the 2023 general elections.

He also said the electoral commission will reproduce all Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) burnt by hoodlums during attacks on its offices.

“I am very concerned about the attacks on INEC offices across the country particularly in the areas that have been identified,” Igini said on Channnels Television’s Sunrise Daily.

Attacks on INEC offices have surged in recent times with at least three incidents recorded only in November. 65,699 uncollected PVCs were destroyed by hoodlums who attacked two of its offices in Ogun and Osun states while several PVCs and other electoral items were also burnt during an attack in Ebonyi State.

However, Igini said INEC has the information of all PVCs at state and national offices and it won’t take it days to reproduce them.

“INEC has the capacity to respond to these challenges, particular in respect to the PVCs that have been burnt. INEC has the number of all the PVCs…It is a matter of days, INEC will produce those PVCs,” he said.

He urged Nigerians not to be discouraged but to ensure they get their PVCs and exercise their franchise in the next general election.

The former REC also decried the inability of security agencies to bring perpetrators of violent attacks on INEC offices to book.

“Why should extra-constitutional actors, why should non-legitimise actors continue to attack INEC. It is an attack on democracy. My pain is that we have not been able to track anybody.

“It is a big challenge to all security agencies in this country that for these years, we have been unable to track those who attack our democracy.

“Look at what happened in the US, all those who attacked the Capitol Hill have been brought to book everyday but here we are in a state of anomie,” Igini stated.

2023: I’ve No Plans To Relocate FCT To Lagos, Sell NNPC To Friends, Tinubu Tells Atiku, Peter Obi

..Says He’s Destine To Succeed Buhari As President

Presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has dismissed rumours that he plans to relocate the nation’s Federal Capital Territory, FCT from Abuja to Lagos.

The APC candidate accused the opposition of launching a multi-pronged desperate campaign of falsehoods against him.

Tinubu, in a statement on Tuesday by the Director, Media and Publicity of the APC Presidential Campaign Council PCC, Mr Bayo Onanuga added that unlike the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Atiku Abubakar, he (Tinubu) does not intend to sell the Nigerian National Petroleum Company NNPC Limited to his friends.

According to him, the latest insidious campaign in some parts of the country against him is the handiwork of the PDP and Labour Party.

“After exhausting their arsenal of calumnies and character assassination against Tinubu, the opposition PDP and their surrogate Labour Party have begun a multi-pronged desperate campaign of falsehoods.

“In one of the falsehoods being circulated, especially in the North West of the country, Tinubu is said to harbour plans to relocate the Federal Capital from Abuja to Lagos on succeeding President Muhammad Buhari from 29th May, 2023”, he stated.

According to him, the misinformation campaign, according to field reports, is being given some traction by some elders on the payroll of the PDP.

“We are shocked that some people could contrive such egregious lie, all in the name of politics, with the intention to confuse our burgeoning support base in that part of the country.

“Let us say with emphasis, that Asiwaju does not contemplate any such plan and will not do anything that is so ultra-unconstitutional.

“The same purveyors of falsehood have also been distorting the commercialization of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited by the APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“The truth is that President Buhari has not privatised NNPC as planned by the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Buhari has instead made it a commercial entity, owned by all the tiers of government, in line with the Petroleum Industry Act”, he stated.

Tinubu noted that in due course, the company will be in a position to declare and share dividends to all its owners, the way Aramco of Saudi Arabia and Petrobas of Brazil do.

“As the destined successor of President Buhari, Asiwaju Tinubu will continue the policy of the Buhari administration. Unlike Atiku, Tinubu has no plan to sell NNPC to his friends or cronies”, he added.
