The Minister of Solid Minerals, Mr Dele Alake, says foreign illegal miners are sponsoring banditry in Nigeria.

He stated this while briefing state house correspondents shortly after the Federal Executive Council meeting at the State House in Abuja on Monday.

He said his ministry is liaising with the Nigerian armed military and other security agencies in the country to boost security in areas where solid minerals abound in the country.

Alake disclosed that the Federal Executive Council approved a draft policy document on the solid minerals sector which highlights measures to be taken for adequate utilization of the country’s mineral resources.

He expressed optimism that solid minerals will soon become a major source of funding for the country’s budget.

I Regret Obtaining NDA Form For Lagbaja, Says Family Head

Published

on

The head of the late Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja’s family, Pa Tajudeen Lagbaja, has expressed regret obtaining Nigerian Defence Academic (NDA) form for the deceased.

Pa Tajudeen, the younger brother of the late COAS’s father, stated that he would not have bought the form had he known it would lead to his death.

Some family members also alleged that Lt. General Lagbaja may have been killed through diabolical means due to a land dispute in his hometown.

According to TheNation, In 2023 a dispute arose in Ilobu, the headquarters of Irepodun Local Government Area in Osun State, when representatives of the Nigerian Army planned to establish a hospital in the community.

Pa Tajudeen told TheNation that he initially obtained the NDA form for the late Lieutenant General.

“Everyone who is born must die. We give glory to God. The year that I obtained NDA form for him, if I had known that he would die before me, I would not have done so. I regret obtaining the form for him. But it is destiny.

“The death that killed Taoreed Lagbaja ought to take me. I took him as one of my children. We are greatly bereaved, we are sad. He constructed a borehole in his father’s compound and other places in the community.

“We can never forget him, his death is so shocking to us. I have accepted the fate, all the promises he made to me have hit a brick wall. He always gave us hope in the family, despite the sorrow, I give thanks to God,” the family head said.

North: Emergence Of New Terrorist Group, Danger To Nigeria, Says Shehu Sani

Published

on

Former federal lawmaker, Senator Shehu Sani, has expressed worries over the emergence of a new terrorist group, Lukarawas in Sokoto State.

Recall that the Defence Headquarters on Thursday confirmed the emergence of the new terrorist group in the North-western part of the country.

Reports indicate that members of the Lakurawa sect are currently making life unbearable for residents of Sokoto State.

Reacting to the ugly development, Shehu Sani in a post on his official X handle recalled how Borno and Yobe State have suffered attacks from the Boko Haram insurgents over a decade.

According to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP chieftain, the emergence of a new terrorist group at the moment would only expand the theatre of operations, citing the unending battle against terrorism in the region.

He, however, expressed confidence that the nation would overcome the daredevil terrorists.

He wrote, “For a country that has been fighting terrorism in multiple fronts for over one decade, the emergence of a new terrorist group in Sokoto will only expand the theatre of operations.

“There is no evil and cruelty that the people of Borno and Yobe have not seen or experienced for over fifteen years. Our country shall overcome and prevail over them”.

You’re Worst Than Abacha, Adeyanju Blasts Tinubu

Published

on

Activist lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu was behind the arraignment of minors arrested during the EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests.

Adeyanju said the minors were arraigned by Tinubu’s administration to serve as a deterrent to prevent further protests in Nigeria.

The Nigerian government had arraigned 72 protesters for engaging in the nationwide EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.

Out of the 72 protesters, 32 were minors and were initially arraigned in an Abuja Federal High Court on charges of treason.

However, the Nigerian government withdrew the charges against the minors following an outcry from Nigerians.

Adeyanju said Tinubu was worse than former Military Head of State, Sani Abacha.

He said: “The aim was not to prosecute the kids; the aim was to deter people from protesting. They want to send a clear message that if you try it, we will detain you for 93 days. If we can detain children, who are you that we will not detain? We will detain you, we will dehumanize you, and we will starve you.

“They denied us access to seeing the children. They denied us legal representation in contravention of the constitution, and denied their families and parents from seeing them repeatedly.

“What else can be more than that when it comes to the issue of torture? That’s torture. Denied them food, that’s torture, simpliciter. The government is just a huge joke, the government is not different from a military regime. There’s no difference.

“Tell me, Abacha did not arrest or arraign children in an open court. This president fled the country when Abacha was looking for him; he didn’t want to be arrested when Abacha was looking for him.

“Today, he is the one arresting children and putting them on trial for treasonable felony while bandits roam about the whole country free. Bandits operate for 7, 8 hours unchallenged in most parts of the country.”
