Fisayo Dele-Bashiru has said the Super Eagles deserved more from Tuesday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against the Amavubi of Rwanda.

The Super Eagles were held to a 0-0 draw in the encounter played at the Amahoro Stadium, Kigali.

The scoreline would have been different had the Super Eagles converted some of the chances that came their way in the game.

Ademola Lookman, Victor Boniface, Moses Simon and Victor Osimhen all missed good scoring opportunities for the three-time African champions.

Dele-Bashiru however stated that it’s a good thing they didn’t lose the game.

“I think we played well, it was going to be difficult, playing away . They have their fans cheering them. Of course there is a lot circumstances to consider too,” the Lazio midfielder said after the game.

“The problem is that we couldn’t convert our chances, we created a lot chances to win the game. We have take positive that we didn’t concede.

“This result will definitely boost our chances of qualifying for the AFCON. It is not the result we wanted but definitely not a bad one.”

UEFA has thrown out Real Madrid’s appeal to overturn disciplinary sanctions imposed on Antonio Rüdiger, Kylian Mbappé and Dani Ceballos for “improper conduct.”

Rudiger, Mbappé and Ceballos were fined €40,000, €30,000 and €20,000 respectively for “violating the basic rules of decent conduct”.

The punishment is in relation to incidents that happened during Madrid’s Champions League round-of-16 penalty shootout win at Atlético Madrid on March 12.

Rudiger and Mbappé will both serve a one-match ban, applicable only in case of repeat offenses.

UEFA’s appeal body have now insisted there are no grounds to overturn the disciplinary measures, which were announced on April 4.

The investigation began after Rudiger was seen on camera making a throat-slitting gesture at Atlético fans, while Mbappé grabbed his crotch during his team’s celebrations.

Ballon d’Or: Donnarumma deserves to win award ahead of Dembele – Raiola

Published

Football agent, Vincenzo Raiola has insisted that Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma deserves to win this year’s Ballon d’Or ahead of Ousmane Dembele.

Raiola believes that the Parisians would not have won the UEFA Champions League last season without the Italian.

Speaking to the media recently, Raiola said (via YSScores): “PSG’s success was down to the saves made by Donnarumma.

“He recalled the performances against Arsenal, Liverpool and Aston Villa in their UEFA Champions League run.

“For me, Donnarumma deserves to win the Ballon d’Or. Ousmane Dembele has contributed a lot with his goals, but without Donnarumma’s saves against Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal, Paris would not have been able to win the Champions League.”

Dembele is among top contenders for the Ballon d’Or this year.

The France international is expected to battle with the likes of Raphinha, Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe for the award.

Former Manchester United defender, Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he will be disappointed if Napoli’s Victor Osimhen ends up joining Galatasaray on a permanent transfer this summer window instead of the Red Devils.

The Englishman said this during a chat with tennis star Nick Kyrgios on talkSPORT.

He said Man United needs to sign Osimhen after missing out on Viktor Gyokeres, who is close to joining Arsenal.

“Osimhen knows how to score goals at the top level,” Ferdinand said.

“I have seen that Galatasaray have put £50 million to sign a top striker [in Osimhen], it’s absolute peanuts in today’s transfer market.

“I will be disappointed if Osimhen goes to Galatasaray for that type of money when Man United are crying out for a number 9.

“But if Man United got Osimhen, then I wouldn’t be too concerned.”
