7,000 Delegates Will Ratify Buhari’s Nomination – APC
All Progressives Congress (APC) says no fewer than 7,000 delegates will on Saturday at the Eagle Square ratify the nomination of President Muhammadu Buhari as the party’s sole presidential candidate for 2019 election.
Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State, who is also the Deputy Chairman of the APC Presidential Convention Planning Committee, made this known while briefing newsmen on the party’s preparations ahead of Saturday’s convention in Abuja.
Shettima said the delegates were drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
He noted that the convention committee on security was working closely with security agencies to ensure a hitch-free exercise.
Shettima, who said the convention would commence at 2pm, added that its transport committee was making arrangements to reduce to the barest minimum, inconveniences it might cause Abuja residents.
“We moved the convention time from 9am to 2pm deliberately to accommodate delegates that are coming from far and near.
“Incidentally, people from Kogi for instance, can leave and be in Abuja within three hours, but believe me, all our delegates will be on ground by 2pm,” he said.
Shettima stressed that the presidential convention was to ratify the nomination of President Buhari as the APC presidential candidate for the 2019 election.
“Let me assure you that the nomination and ratification of the candidacy of President Buhari is a commitment to service, progress and quality change.
“The convention is a special one for the emergence of our presidential flag bearer; no other issue will be tabled.
“In subsequent conventions, and the National Working Committee (NWC) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings, other issues can be discussed and sorted out,” he said.
The committee deputy chairman, while speaking on the challenges that followed the party’s primaries in some states of the federation, said the NWC was working round the clock to ensure that the issues were amicably resolved.
“Despite some of the problems we have encountered during the primaries in our various states, the NWC is working assiduously to resolve all the issues.
“It is a family quarrel, and we are going to sort things out amicably,” he said.
Shettima added that vote cast for President Buhari during the party’s recent presidential primaries held across the federation and the FCT would be revealed at the convention.
The APC Expression of Interest and Nomination forms were purchased for President Buhari by the Nigeria Consolidation Ambassadors’ Network on September 5, at the cost of 45 million.
Buhari had in April declared his intention to seek re-election at the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The President, who is the APC sole presidential aspirant, while submitting the forms, on Sept. 12, said; “I am taking this step with all humility, sense of responsibility and unquestionable desire to serve and protect the interest of all Nigerians.
“Let me today, appeal to party members not to be complacent but to pre, strategize and win 2019 elections.”

Amaechi Finally Accepts Offer, Set to Be Announced as Atiku’s Running Mate
By Augustine Akhilomen
The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has selected the former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as his running mate for the upcoming election.
The development was confirmed on Saturday.
The immediate past Chairman of the ADC in Rivers State, Leader Sampson, confirmed the development on Saturday.
When asked directly whether Amaechi had accepted the nomination to serve as vice-presidential candidate, Sampson simply replied, “Yes,” according to a Daily Post report.
The selection follows the recent ADC presidential primary election, a direct primary involving over 2.5 million votes cast from the party’s 3.1 million registered members. In that contest, Atiku emerged as the standard-bearer after securing a landslide victory with 1,855,787 votes, defeating Amaechi, who polled 509,397 votes, and businessman Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, who garnered 180,903 votes.
Prior to the primary election, Amaechi had publicly stated that he did not purchase the ADC presidential expression of interest and nomination forms with the intention of becoming a vice-presidential candidate.
Following the conclusion of the voting process, Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen challenged the transparency of the exercise, alleging that the internal process had been manipulated in favour of Atiku.
However, a political breakthrough reportedly crystallized following a recent reconciliation visit by Atiku to Amaechi’s residence shortly after the primaries.
During the meeting at the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja, Atiku allegedly appealed for party unity and explicitly urged Amaechi and Hayatu-Deen to join him in building a formidable front to save Nigeria’s democracy, emphasizing that the primary was a collective effort rather than a battle of winners and losers. With Amaechi’s reported acceptance of the position, the ADC leadership is expected to make an official joint announcement to the public soon.
