2023: Zoning Will Destroy PDP If…, BoT Chairman, Jubrin Warns

Published

on

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Walid Jibrin, on Friday cautioned the party’s leaders on the zoning of its presidential ticket and other elective positions ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Jubrin, who addressed journalists at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, said zoning of offices would destroy the party if not properly handled.

He added that the PDP BoT has been fully constituted in line with the party’s constitution.

Jubrin stressed that the BoT was ready to assist the PDP Governors’ Forum, National Executive Committee (NEC), and other organs of the party to ensure peace ahead of its national convention and the 2023 elections.

He said: “We are not talking about the zoning of the offices of the President, Vice President, Senate President or Speaker of the House of Representatives yet.

“What I can say is that we should never be personal because when you want to be personal, the issue of disunity will come. The BoT met today in our continuous commitment to bring peace and unity to this party.

“You are aware that the Constitution of the BoT gives us two categories of members. First are the life members, which include all past presidents of Nigeria who are members of the party; all former vice presidents, past Senate presidents, and their deputies.

“Others are all past national secretaries, all past governors and all former chairmen who are alive; the secretaries and chairmen of BoT, who are alive.

“Currently, I am the Chairman of the BoT and fully elected by the constitution of the party and the constitution says the Chairman and Secretary must come either from the North or the South.

“Today, I come from the North, and Adolphus Wabara, the Secretary of the BoT, comes from the South. The constitution also gives the Chairman and the Secretary opportunity to serve for five years only and there is no re-election.

“By God’s grace, we have already spent three years and we are only waiting for the next two years. Another category is five members of the PDP from the six geo-political zones.

“In the zones, there may be three men elected and two women selected while the states produce one each. We have inaugurated them and they came from all the states and zones in Nigeria. So, today, we have the full members of BoT.”

2027: INEC bows to pressure, updates NDC’s certified logo on portal

Published

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has changed the logo displayed for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, on its official portal, with the commission now reflecting the party’s blue-background “Two Fingers Up” logo.

The updated logo features a blue background, a two-finger victory sign and the red “NDC” inscription.

The development follows a September 8, 2026 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja, which directed INEC to approve, upload and use the modified logo in elections conducted by the commission.

The dispute arose after NDC alleged that INEC initially uploaded the modified logo but later removed it and reverted to the old logo used when the party was originally registered.

The party subsequently approached the court, seeking an order compelling INEC to recognise and use the modified logo.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled that the modified design, which was adopted at the NDC’s first National Executive Council meeting on March 25, 2026, should be recognised as the party’s official logo.

Following the judgment, NDC leaders directed the party’s candidates and members to use the modified logo on campaign materials, including banners.

2027: Why I will rather back Tinubu than Atiku – Babachir Lawal

Published

on

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Babachir Lawal, has explained why he would rather support President Bola Tinubu than Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

Speaking during an interview on the Naija Unfiltered Podcast, Lawal said Nigeria could collapse chaotically if Atiku becomes president in 2027.

Recall that Lawal recently joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, after resigning from the ADC following the emergence of Atiku as its presidential candidate.

“I’d rather go with Bola than Atiku because when Nigeria crashes with Bola, it might be an orderly crash, but with Atiku, it would be a chaotic one,” Lawal said.

According to him, the former vice president is not a good man, attributing his position to his previous experience working with Atiku.

“I wanted to work for Atiku. I had the belief that, given the way we are suffering in the North, we should not surrender the presidency; that, at least, our own man would, if nothing else, stop the decline we are in,” he added.

The former SGF accused Atiku of giving instructions and later reversing them after consulting with other people.

“Everything you do with him, there’s chaos,” Lawal stated.
